Hi, my problem started over the weekend. my computer is an XP with pentium d CPU 2.8ghz with 3gb of ram. I think it is to do with the microsoft management console but i could be wrong. i tweaked my MMC but embarrassingly can't remember which ones I tweaked so I'm hoping there is a way to set it back to default level. I also downloaded some new software (desktop earth wallpaper) but now I have removed this from my computer and the problem still persists. Everytime I use my dvd/cd drives for various reasons, it slows my pc down, when I'm listening to online radio, all I get is an echoeing playback. I have tried system restore to earlier point but no luck.

this might sound like a dumb question...but is your dvd/cd drive on the same ribbon cable as your harddrive if so this will seriosly slow down performance whenever you use your drive! but if it uses sata i dont what else to tell, other than i tried to help.

the answer to the first question is that no, it is not on the same ribbon cable. i've never had this problem before and i have never opened the base unit.

I'm embarrassed to say i can't remember what i tweaked. would it be a good idea if i went through them one by one?
