    hi peeps
having problems with a note book.
for some reason its very slow booting up. Also some applications take a long time to open.
Ive also noted that the sound on boot up is very crackly.

Ive check all the norm. I.E virus scan, spyware check.
Ive defraged the hard disk and checked for bad sectors.
    Still the problem prestists.
    Anyone have any ideas????

How many applications are you running at once? Check the background apps. Also, go to Run and type in msconfig to uncheck some of the sart up applicatios for a faster boot time.. hope this helps

Well ive checked the start menu, checked the task manager ive ran a virus and spyware scan. Ive defragged the drive and this note book ive been given to sort out is still dead slow. Its only five months old!
Ive also tried do a system restore but for some reason it wont let me go back beyond October even though i know the system is older...
Anymore ideas would be helpful to say the least

    Hi Zippy.
Its not my lap top (thankfully) Its only a few months old.
Being that it was factory built, it didn`t come with a copy of windows or any kind of recovery disc...So i cant do a reinstall.
It belong to the farther inlaw. He hasn`t even used it much (maybe five or six times since new)
I`m beginning to think there's a hardware problem...

that cant be right all PCs are sold with a recovery CD or XP install CD if you don't have one just download one,XP needs to be reinstalled every 4-9 months because it hordes invalided data and starts slowing down and screwing up.

If this is only during start up, then maybe there are too many programms starting up during start up.

got to Start>Run>msconfig abd click ok

now go to the start up tab and uncheck every single program. now click apply and then OK.

now there should be a pop-up telling you to restart the computer.

If the computer is still ver slow booting up, then maybe you might need to reinstall windows..... ;-)

    cheers
