my xbox is moving way slow out of the blue.one day it just took like 1-2 min. to boot.i cleared the cache and everything ,still no luck.help pleez
My best guess is that its a harddrive issue. Do you ever get a error code? What kind of mod do you have? Do you have a stock harddrive? ps, dont clear your cache, I dont care what you've been told.
i have a 250 seagate hdd with a sid 4.5 007 softmod.i have unleashx as a dashboard and its been softmodded since october.and nope never got an error code
The only "solution" that comes to mind is a format.... but if you dont have space on your computer HDD that would really suck. I agree with devils, open er up and give it a good clean best you can. Unplug all the cables and plug em back in. Try that first. I think it could even be the powersupply causing you problems. I guess your only options are.. 1. re-install your mod. (no format) 2. format. If you need to format do them one drive at a time, F then G first. Make sure to backup everything on those drives or one at a time.
The boot speed is purely down to the size of the drive and the number of files on it. That's why they slow down. theres not much you can do about it except clear out a load of the junk you never use..like hundreds of duplicate nes roms that you will probably never play. Logik's answer is spot on.. The cache doesn't affect this at all.. One thing you can try is to get a 166 ide cable. It does increase the speed a little, but it's not a staggering improvement. It's back to the old "xbox hardware" issue.. It was never meant to boot a drive larger than 10 gig so it's gonna take it's own sweet time with a 250.. I have a 300 segate barracuda in an old 1.0 and it takes 90-140 seconds plus now it's getting full. If you aren't getting any errors consider the situation normal.
okay heres my progress.i formatted the g drive got back my 160gig space back, rebooted still slow boot.i erased my nes(over 1000 roms)my snes(1000 roms) and that increased my boot speed my half but not back to normal. My games played perfect all thru this process but the biggest problem was the movies i have on g drive they played like the xbox was stoppping to buffer the movie or something as if it was scratched but it was backedup on hdd.i used xbmc to watch them
I dont understand at all why the amount of stuff on the HDD would affect the boot time. It boots off C drive (usually) and the dash should be the only thing there. The xbox doesn't go through the entire HDD to boot. (to my knowledge.) What you have on F and G should have no affect on boot time. What model HDD do you have? (Not a Seagate I hope. No real reason I just dont like them.) How old is it? ---------------- What I would do in your situation is buy a IDE-166 cable, format the HDD (after backing up stuff you care about), re-install everything, put your backed up stuff back, and cross your fingers. If none of that worked your just gonna have to live with it.
Evox does a path check on boot to fill the games etc. menus. And there is the typical drive integrity POST checking. That's where the amount of data comes in.. lots of small files sems to take ages, don't forget we're only dealing with 64 meg of ram here. The POST check on the xbox is a mystery as far as I know theres no info on it at all because it's never been hacked.. I'm puzzled about the films stuttering off G:\. That seems like something wrong with the media center ini file, or a lack of a certain codec..
The reason I'm thinking that it may be the HDD itself failing is because I had one fail and it started with slowdowns like this. It was an 80Gig. Stage 1 - slow boot, around 2 min I think. Stage 2 - slow boot plus slow dash. ( It would take 5 min to scroll to the bottom of the evox dash. What was weird was after 5 min of scrolling a game would play normal. Stage 3 - Same ^^ but now games crashed. Stage 4 - No boot. No nothing. Xbox logo would popup and sit there. No error code nothing. I would format put all my crap back and it would be fine for about a week, then it would all happen again. So finally I tried to make a final backup, but it died while transfering my music, I lost 4 Gigs of music. I was super pissed.
yeah i do have a seagate, they were on sale.i think im going to backup everything and then re-format the whole drive and if that doesnt work i'll re-softmod it again and hopefully it'll work
okay so i finally got around to unistalling the softmod and re-installing it and it still slow.but get this, when i unistalled it with the original dash it moved regular and then when i installed the softmod again it moved slow again. weird huh?
Do you mean it was slow even befor you put all your stuff back on? If so that is kinda weird. I really want to sit down with your xbox for a little while cause I dont know what to recomend... sorry. Try googling you problem and see what turns up.
Do you have the network settings set up?? If they are set to not skip setup on no connect but are wrong it really has an effect on speed. It tries about 20 times and waits for a timeout each time. check also the tsr settings, and try disabled.
okay i diabled my network and that didnt work. So i was talking with somebody at my job and they suggested that my dashboard might not work right and i might need to change it. it make sense being though that when i put the original dash on there it was fine but with the unleashx dash it was back to slow so maybe itz the dash. whaddya think?
Use EVOX. Its the most stable xbox dash there is. I did already think of that..... don't know why I didn't tell you to try it.
Well if it isn't the network and it isn't the tsr then it can only be down to the size of the drive really. With 64 meg of ram it takes a time to load all the menus and things. Without messing about with evox.ini I can't think of any other way to speed it up. Mine takes a while but theres so much stuff on it that I just live with it. And believe me..I can go and put the kettle on it in the time it takes to load some of my pictures folders.. Just one little thought.. On C:\ how many skins do you have in the folder. That might be having an effect because it's one of the first things evox.ini has to root through, even if you are using unleash they are still on C:\. Don't delete them but maybe moving a heap of them somewhere else will help. Another thing comes to mind too.. on C:\ do you have any strange things like items.txt files and screenshots. Maybe it's making bootlog files and that's the problem.
As for the video problem, I was getting a lot of that after originally upgrading my drive a few weeks ago. I ended up reinstalling XBMC with the latest T3ch build, and deleting the saved settings under TDAta/face008, that made everyting reset and everything has been perfect since then, I would definitely suggest deleting the file folder of face008 in TDATA, it contains all settings for XBMC and can help with video, and any other directory issues related to the media center. I use XBMC as my primary dash, and it does not seem to scan the drive on boot, so boot time is relatively quick, it does add a few seconds to load XBMC, but I am otherwise very pleased with the performance and ease of use. Perhaps switching your primary dashboard to something that doesn't do a full scan on startup would help?
