Hi i wonder if someone can help. After using Mainconcept to convert a SVCD to DVD format ready to encode the Sound goes out of sync, it starts spot on but buy the end its a good 5sec difference.I used the guide at http://ness888.users.btopenworld.com/fromvcd2dvd.htm.If someone has any ideas please let me know or is there a better guide out there for SVCD to DVD format.

    Cheers,
    lee

PS Whats the best format to download in terms of sound and picture quality, VCD, SVCD, XviD or DivX

XviD/DivX would be the best (unless you want to go all out and grab a DVDISO). Note that you would only be able to view the AVIs on a computer or special standalone so that's a call you will have to make.

Regarding the synch... what framerate is it?

There is really no need to re-encode your SVCD Files to DVD, all this will Do is Lower the quality of your Movie...You Can author your SVCD Directly to DVD WITHOUT encodeing to DVD/Mpeg2 all you need to do is resample the audio to 48000hz and then use a DVD authoring Program called "DVD-Lab" it will Author SVCD files to DVD and they will Work in most all dvd Players...This is a Much better method than re-encodeing the File to DVD because re-encodeing and resizeing the Resolution to DVD Specs will Just serve to degrade the Quality..So you should go download DVD-Lab(http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/) and then Load in your SVCD Video file and the Resampled Audio and it will author it to DVD Pluss this is one of the better authoring Program arround...But if you want to re-encode your File and ruin the Quality make sure that when you choose the Frame rate it is the same as the SVCD Frame rate which should be if it is a NTSC SVCD "29.97 NTSC Drop Frame" if you used the "29.97fps NTSC Non-Drop Frame" then this is Probably why it is out of sync....Good Luck

Cheers for the advice guys. I've tryed DVD-lab but when i viewed the finished acticle the sound was in sync but the movie was a little jerky, it looked like to me that every other frame was missing, does this have any thing to do with bitrate,(which was 2500 ish but can't be changed....or can it?). When i used Main concept with a constant bitrate of 4500 the movie was smoolth as a new born, but like i said the sound bollocked up. I'm now retrying Mainconcept with Minion's advice about the Drop frame choice, as it was Non-drop frame before. I'm new to this as you probably can tell so bear with me.The move is a DVD rip (Screener) does this make a difference ?.

    Cheers

Well DVD Lab doesn"t do anything to the Video so there shouldn"t be any Differance between the Burned DVD and the Original SVCD, I backed Up My whole 400 SVCD Collection to DVD this way with a 99% Success rateing...well Hopefull the Drop Frame Frame rate setting will Fix the sync Problem....Cheers
