Hi folks, hope someone can help.

I have 2 desktops running on XP Professional, both networking fine, i want to add my laptop running Vista Home Basic, i am using the sagem router supplied with Sky Broadband, Laptop will access the internet with no problems but wont see the other 2 desktops in the network, wont see the printer either, i have named all the pc's with unique id and also the network id changed to MSHOME on all 3 pcs. I have all the right boxes checked on the vista setup that i am aware of but this is now driving me round the bend, when i click on view workgroup on the xp pc it lists the laptop but i cant access it and get the message that it is not available, network path not found, please please please can someone help me

I also have the same setup as you. My Vista laptop will wirelessly access anything on my other computers and it prints to a printer plugged into an XP Pro machine.
My XP machines however wont access data on Vista lappy.
They sees it on the network but wont give access. I stopped working on that problem a while ago and just remembered it reading your thread.
Anyway, this seems to have fixed a few problems so read the fix in this thread here... http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/664992-print-vista-laptop-shared-printer.html
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for your reply deadrum33, i checked out the link you posted. no joy im afraid, vista laptop wont even see the pcs on the network so cant reach the printer either, when i followed longvales thread i got as far as step 8 then got the message "Network path not found".
Both firewalls are turned off. i have tried opening web browser and typing \\main-pc1\ but this also doesn't find it. i was thinking of binning the vista and installing xp instead but it is my daughters laptop and think it is more beneficial for her to get vista knowledge on top of her xp knowledge, personally i prefer xp.

Microsoft made sure that most newer Vista laptops dont have drivers to install XP if you wanted, so if you do make that decision check you have support for XP.
What firewalls if any do you have running? Turn them off on your machines and try networking again. If you succeed we can turn them back on with exceptions for your shared machines IP address.
Make sure all your computers have the same workgroup name and I assume the problem is your sharing and security from your descriptions of the problem.
Google + Afterdawn = Fixing any problem you may have so keep us informed if my general help doesnt work.
