I want to burn an AVI to DVD so I can play it on my TV DVD player. Over the last 3 weeks I have tried at least a dozen downloaded bits of software, each claiming to convert an AVI file to DVD. Most crashed and none did want I wanted. Those that worked just created an MPG file that my DVD player doesn't play. I've used DVDshrink with great success but I've had no success except with VOB files. I don't even care to see whatever movie I have on AVI but it has become my 'great white whale' and it's just that 'he tasks me!... he tasks me!'.

I have a Plextor burner that came with Roxio software. I think the software package includes DVD authoring software but I ain't sure. Whatever I'm doing makes it crash and I sure as heckly ain't gonna pay money for a real program that doesn't perform.

What software should I be looking at? Mind you I've tried several but no suggestion will be ignored. I just don't know how to make the leap from AVI to VOB.

its not you but i would surmise that its the roxio software that you have installed on your pc.Roxio is the greatest bane in dvd reproduction.Of the 100% on this planet only 1% has any success with roxio.Roxio likes to conflict with nearly every other piece of software to the degree that you experience slow down, crashes, freezes etc.

I would suggest that you dump roxio and go with something that is more computer friendly.

Lets start at the basics first :
Your first step is to download avicodec and run your file through it and then copy and paste the properties for us to see.

Now once you have the properties of the file we can continue.

As an after thought i would suggest you try nero, pretty sure you can download a trial version from there website. If you do and the properties of your file are what i think they are then nero will be alright as the burning agent.

My, that was quick. Don't believe I've tried that one yet but will get it shortly.

I made an attempt at the Nero trial but evidently I have tried other Nero products in the past cuz it tells me my trial period has expired and nothing will run and I surely won't buy even their stu$$ without my trying it out.

do you know much about using nero's clean tools from there website.Download it and use it.Then do you know how to use regedit and take all the nero folders and files out of the registry.Once that is done i think you'll find that you will be able to re use there trial version.

you should be able to just highlight each and copy and paste them one under each otherin your post

I have jv16 for a reg cleaner and the Nero Cleantool. Ran both with no results. And you can see copying and pasting a screen shot doesn't work either. I think I'll just go bang 2 rocks together. I understand that technology.

The image “file:///c:/Program%20Files/AVIcodec/so%20now%20what.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

And when I run this wundersoftware, AVIcodec asks for files to study but doesn't offer to do anything to them.

this is easy, come on .I'll screen shot it for you.You on the other hand didnt need to screen shot it.All you had to do was run your file through avicodec and then down where it shows your file properties , highlight each one and text copy them to your next post.

Hers what i want to see.

1.press the select button on avicodec and then locate where your file is on your pc.

now double click the avi and you will see it magically appear within the program

now down at the botton where it says file properties . just highlight each one and when you post next copy them into your post.

you need to pick which of the 2 programs (Roxio or Nero) you're gonna keep.

if you want to get rid of Roxio, uninstall it normally then fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities

if you want to get red of Nero, uninstall it normally then fully remove using Nero's Clean Tools - http://ww2.nero.com/en/Clean_Tools.html

Nero is much better than Roxio, and doesn't take over your PC like Roxio does....
