OK so my 500GB harddrive with VERY important information is screwed, its smashed, its physically broken. it doesnt detect with ANYTHING, i even downloaded recovery software and that said there was no hard drive plugged in. don't try to convince my that i can still fix it as it is. HERE'S what im trying to do: the disks appear to be fine. ive taken it all apart and taken the actual disks out. say i buy a cheap 5.25 hd by the same brand. would I be able to switch the disks? I just need to recover the data. it WOULD be nice to use them as storage again but its not a priority. BTW, some of the content is for my eyes only, so sending it to get fixed is out of the question. if you feel me. lol
has to be the same make as in 500 gig in size to do what you want to do. is mechanically dead or is it the circuit board that died? i hope that you do not have kiddie porn on that drive for that my eyes only comment.
well it turns on, and the reader slides inwards slowly, and clicks and snaps back to the beginning position, and repeats infinitely. the disks spin as though it would work. so you're saying i could use any brand, as long as its 500 gb? cuz i could always use another tb... lol No, it isn't kiddy porn fella. sorry to disappoint you. ;p
damn... its out of production... that could be hard to find. what are my other cost effective options?
wait wait wait... i keep forgetting that simple tech didnt make the actual hard drive, just the crappy housing. i think its a hitachi or a fujitsu... do you think they could send me a new one without the disks? i would just ask them directly but i dont have it here with me.
hd maker if they sell you a drive directly but highly unlikely would send you a complete sealed drive. other option is to check on ebay or similar sites for same drive as yours. how positive are you that it was the drive that crapped & not the enclosure that crapped out? did you try the drive outside of the enclosure?
well no........... wow. i'll definately need to try that. i wont be able to until sometime next week... but what about hd maker? why would hd maker help? i dont understand your first sentence lol... could you rephrase?
oh haha. i thought you meant the xbox hard drive exploiter XD. so you don't think they would send me just that hardware to replace it, granted the actual hd is broken and not just the simple tech housing?
ok. well I'll let you know about it anyway, i'm sure i'll be trying to put it into my new rig before contacting the maker.
