I was able to get ahold of a brand new Onkyo TX-SR503. Everything was working great for a few days. I've got my Xbox, Gamecube, and PS2 hooked up as well as a DVD player. I'm playing my Gamecube and at first things were great. Now, all of a sudden, every speaker cuts out to low static except for the right front one. I've had absolutely no problem with the test tone feature. The only settings this doesn't happen on are some of the very basic Mono ones. Right now the "Video 2" setting actually has two audio assignments. I change it between "---" for my Gamecube, and "OPT2" for when my XBox is on. My Gamecube video is using the S-Video on "Video 2" and my Xbox is using Component on "Video 2". Could these wirings be causing the problem? What else could it be? This would be the FOURTH time I would have to bring a receiver into Circuit City... I also don't think I'll be getting Onkyo again in the future. WTF!
I dont know much about recievers, but i know when i have more than 1 console plugged into my tv it makes weird noise. ( or some wireing thing like that). Sooo i think its definately a possibility. Try only having your dvd player connected, and see if it works. Keep on troubleshooting like that untill you find the problem. (You may want to check back on this thread, cause like i said i dont know much about recievers, and maybe some one more knowlegable will respond soon.) Good luck
I would guess that connecting two video sources to one input would be a very good possibility for your problem, they are probably interfering with each other. if that doesn't work, try disconnecting everyting and start with RCA analog connections first to see if that works.
OK right now I have: DVD-Gamecube S-Video and Basic (analog?) Audio. Video1-PS2 Component and Optical Audio. Video2-Xbox Component and Optical Audio. Video3-DVD player Composite everything. I'm almost 100% sure it's the receiver, because even though everything is separated, it's still cutting out. If it was messing up while playing PS2/Xbox, my first suspicion would be my Optical Cable, but it's through the Red/White Gamecube cables. But then again, I haven't heard it cut out with any other systems. Is it possible the basic Red/White audio cables for my Gamecube are messed up? I REALLY do not want another Onkyo after this. It could be my fault, but I've had nothing but problems. I'm going to let my PS2 and Xbox run for over a half-hour and see if anything happens. Also, is it possible that something on the receiver is messed up with the plugs for the Red/White inputs?
pretty strange man. I have 3 onkyo receivers, which I run hard, and they have been rock solid. was this receiver new? (or refurbished??) Are you sure all your speaker connections are correct and nothing is shorting out? To be honest with you, if its a new receiver, If I were you I'd call Onkyo tech support. They would know best on what things to check for, and they would be the best at determining the problem.
I was told it was new (I asked three times ) Things seem to be OK now with my Gamecube hooked up to Video 3, which only has composite inputs now...Two more minor things Is the center speaker always louder in Pro Logic II Movie? Mine definitely is, and it makes sense with all the dialogue in movies. And is there anyway I can take advantage of my S-Video inputs? Again: DVD-my dvd player, where eventually I will be buying component and coaxial. Video1-PS2 component and optical Video2-XBox component and optical Video3-GCN all composite I've actually hooked up my system similarly on my old (swapped) Onkyo. It just seems like such a waste with all those empty S-Videos!! Maybe I'll call Onkyo right now. Hope it's free! Ah I just thought of something. If I could somehow split the wire so that the Video cable went directly to the TV and the audio went to the receiver that would work. Unfortunately they're all wrapped up.
