softmod has definitely been out for a while. i was going to do it while i waited for my modchip to arrive, but i got lazy. at first it only supported dms/d2a but i believe support was added for d2b later as well. a little bit of a hassle since you'd need to connect up to a parallel port and have software running. that said, you can make your own "modchip" for the wii really easily, and really for no more than the price of buying an actual mod chip. not really hard at all, especially considering the difficulty of the cut legs rebuilding
