I've been using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 (both purchased) for my backup needs for some time now and so far I haven't been disappointed. However, I see many posts about how CloneDVD2's transcoding sucks in comparison to other progs. I also read about some other progs that I had never heard of before, such as VobBlanker and RIPIT4ME. Do I need to update my burning protocol? I hate to think that I'm cheating myself out of burning the best copy I possibly can, but at the same time AnyDVD and CloneDVD2, when used in conjunction, are just so damn easy. I guess what I'm asking is, is there anything as easy or easier that would produce a better backup? I don't really care if the software is free; I'll gladly pay for quality.

I think RipIt4Me is great but you need other programs with it such as DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and a program called FixVTS all of which are free.

For producing better backups, NOTHING beats DVDRebuilder, which includes Hanks encoder. Better yet, add a commercial encoder, such as CCE or ProCoder2.

    Teflon said it best,
    DVD-RB
Coupled with the CCE (Cinema craft encoder) as the encoder (2000$)(US)
Its quality is unrivaled because its that class of software.
Too rich for my blood but Creaky is rich so he has got it like that!
    Cheers!

I've been perfectly satisfied using CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD. Money well spent.

    Like 9mmRuger1,
I am perfectly satisfied with AnyDVD & CloneDVD 2 from Slysoft!
This combo has yet to disappoint me & I've had them for well over a year! They stay updated and work "Flawlessly".

This is what I use, all based on afterdawn input

AnyDvd for decoding--excellent, extremely effective and easy to use
Clone DVD for compression level at 80% or higher; also to make 1:1 copies onto two discs
Nero Recode for compression level less than 80%
DVD Decrypter to rip discs that are scratched or worn--it usually creates a file even if other programs fail; then Nero to compress/burn.

To rip: DVDFAB Decrypter or RipIt4Me (2 of the greatest FREE tools ever)
To process or rid of unwanted junks: VobBlanker
To encode: DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70
To transcode movies with less compressions needed: Nero Recode 2 (Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie)
    To burn: Nero Burning Rom
