Just wondering, can one tell if the machine is soft modded vs. hard modded just by turning the console on without taking apart the box? How can you be sure if someone sells you a machine that's supposed to be hard modded actually is the case?

    thanks

Very simple: You put in a copy of a wii game and see if it boots. If it does then its hardmodded.

If instead you have to run the backup loader via the homebrew channel and it will only load patched disk images its softmodded.

This is the kind of question thats extremely easy to answer if you look up what is involved in softmodding. Something that is asked nearly every day here on afterdawn.

The only way would be to try a backup. If it dosent work then either it dosen't have a modchip or there is something wrong with the backup or modchip itself.

In this case you would need to open it up and find out.
