Well first of all, what are you looking to get out of you xbox. I would first check into softmodding your xbox. Its really easy and not expensive. All you need is mechasault, splintercell, or 007 and action replay. A soft mod alows you to FTP your xbox to your computer so you can copy games to your xbox , make xbox game copies, make halo 2 maps and put them on your xbox. So think about it. I don't know that much about hard mods, but i don know they have salderless mod chips.
If you don't go on live there is no reason you shouldn't softmod your Xbox. It's worth it just to turn you Xbox into a media center. Being able to run emulators and playing burned games is pretty cool too.
hi onehitter ive been reading up about softmodding my Xbox for a couple of weeks now. i dont use Xbox live so thats probibly a plus. i have tried searching the web for guides on how to do this and most of them say: "Dummies guide to Modding an Xbox" and "Fool proof Modding guide" that kind of stuff. well i dont really class myself as a dummie but i cant even understand those guides! whats wrong with me?! lol If you could help me in the process of modding my xbox it would be much appreciated.
