Hello, I was trying to softmod my xbox last night and am not sure what I did wrong. Now when I try to boot the xbox it says it needs service. The xbox will load a game but I cannot get to the dashboard to copy the softmod exploit to the hard drive and try the process again. Any help is greatly appreciated. My ICQ# is 286499571
if youre hot swapping, unplug the ide cable from the dvd drive so it comes up with an error 12, the harddrive will be unlocked with this error. allowing you to install the softmod again, fixing it.
it would really help to know what error it comes up with...all the error codes say it needs service. more information=more help
alright, mine had the same problem too. Thx dude. Now what. I want to get the original MS Dashboard back up. Do I have to get the slayer auto-install? If so, then I'm already getting it. Can someone give me a step by step guide?
yer i got the same problem to, after stuffing up the softmod my xbox wont read the 'linux' save in splinter cell the second time. help needed pleeeassee!
13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed. The error it gives is because of the incompatibility between the (older) dashboard (4920) that older slayer cd installs and the new dashboard/kernel versions found in some new xbox's and found in xbox's that have been connected to xbox live (when you go on xbox-live, it'll upgrade your dashboard file to i believe it is now 5659.03. This dasboard is incompatible with the dash that (old) slayer cd installs (for example 2.5 or lower) for you. (In detail, in the eeprom chip there is a kernel which is incompatible with the dashboard (4920) that slayer installs.) So what do you do to fix it? You can use the dashupdate found on most new xbox games! Be sure to 1st unplug your ethernet cable before you do so!!! Besides that, just use a good installation disc and all is fine. Use a 2.6 slayer or something similar 14 - dashboard - Error loading dashboard (dashboard generic error) Same thing as above (error 13). This time it is also a little mistake from you on changing names or having played around with files on the xbox harddisk. Error 14 is most often because you changed boot orders or names of startup files on the harddisk. It can also happen when you are rebuilding your xbox harddisk with a slayer cd and the power was cut.

thanks for trying to help sean11901. the problem is that my xbox will no longer read burnt media. it is acting like a retail xbox and will only read official disks. so i have this error 13 with the tray open and error 14 with it closed and i cant get a slayer disc or AID disc to read on the xbox... i need some help badly. thanks guyys
you lost the dashboard, which allows the box to boot unsigned material. you will have to hotswap and use xboxhdm. you can then rebuild just your c: drive or the whole hdd...you will then have the softmod on your box, evox/unleashedx dashboard, and anything else you want to put into the xboxhdm disc. and a couple of hints on the hotswap/xboxhdm... 1. go into bios and turn off the auto detect for the primary master on pc 2. boot pc and xbox at the same time..make sure pc is booted to linux BEFORE swapping! 3. make sure IDE cable on xbox is plugged into dvd AND hdd when booting, it needs to get to 13 or 14 for drive to be unlocked. 4. replace ide on xbox before shutting down.
