Softmodding with controller????

i really don't feel like running out and buying a action replay or really spend any money at all. so i would rather just sacrifice a controller by shredding it and transfer the saves through that to my xbox... is it worth it??? will it work??? or do i have more of a chance of damaging my xbox by doing this... i already know how to do it but, idk let me know if anyone feels differently or has some good advice..Thanks
