First off you could run a PC for a whole year and only spend $32 on electric! WHy the hell is this even an issue! Your PC uses less power than a cell phone!

Damn son, you must have a circa 1988 cell phone then, and a PDA/palmtop from 2012.

Actually, a PC uses 2 pounds of coal for every hour it's on, and THAT's a true story. I've never heard of software to reduce your electricity usage though.

there is no such software needed. you can set your power usage options to hibernate the compie, put it into standby, or do a regular shut down after so much time of inactivity, as well as turn off your monitor. but if you're leaving the machine on to do stuff, you don't want to use any of those power options, except maybe turning off the monitor.

When my computer goes on Standby, my internet doesn't function, and my msn logs off and stuff..

I leave my computer on 24/7 to donwload stuff.

there's not much you're going to be able to do to save electricity, save turning off your monitor. everything in your tower is vital to the functioning of the compie.

dude, seriously, why are you worrying about it? your computer costs less to run than a dishwasher, refrigerator, or many other appliances. it's not more than a few dollars a month, no matter what you do.

PearlMilk, what is the price per kilowatt/hour of electricity & what is the total watts of the computer, monitor & modem? the crt monitor if correct uses more power than the computer.
