Hello, I'm considering buying a new PC for gaming. I've desiced to go with an HP d4000e because I don't want to build... I'm afraid of screwing one thing up and ruining everything I just bought. So I was going to get it with these things stock:

    -athlon64 3800+-----------------------------------+$240
    -1gb ram-------------------------------------------free upgrade
    -250 gb 7200rpm hdd-------------------------------+$80
    -48x max combo drive-------------------------------free upgrade
    -no secondary drive--------------------------------included
    -card reader--------------------------------------+$10
    -floppy-------------------------------------------+$20
    -no monitor----------------------------------------included
    -geforce fx 6800 256 mb---------------------------+$220
    -integrated sound----------------------------------included
    -no speakers---------------------------------------included
    -basic keyboard/mouse------------------------------included
    -basic software------------------------------------included
    -TOTAL---------------------------------------------$1339.99

    Then buy this from newegg:
-Microsoft wireless optical desktop 1000 bv3-00003-$47.00
    -AOpen F90JS black 19" 16ms lcd monitor------------$298.99
-Creative sound blaster audigy2 zs oem-------------$71.00
    -gigabyte gn-wpkg pci wireless adapter-------------$27.50
    -NEC black ND-3520A--------------------------------$49.00
    -Logitech X-230 2.1 speakers-----------------------$35.00
    -CyberPower Surge Protector 610--------------------$6.75
    -TOTAL---------------------------------------------$535.24

I think this would be a pretty strong system for about $1875. Anyone have any comments/suggestions? I just want to make sure nothing is wrong with this setup before I go spending all that money. thanks!!

well i wouldnt pay all that for the stuff your getting, i could build that and way more for that inititial 1400 bucks......there isnt even a monitor in that package......and the memory your gonna be getting, guaranteed is shitty.... cant say i have respect for HP's......oh yeah another thing about HP's.....like for instance your power supply, HP is proprietary...they make their own...so you cant just go out and buy yourself a power supply....you have to order from them...... but first you need to look around more......second really consider doing it yourself......

How difficult is it to do it myself? I wouldn't know what motherboard/cables/anything to get. The most I've done inside a PC is put in new memory... for instance how hard is it to put in a processor/heat sink or whatever I need? I'd be willing to pay $200 extra from a regular company to make sure it works. I'll go check out some prices to see what the final would be if I did it myself with the same specs

if you can install memory, you can do it yourself..its really not that hard...people more times then none, are just intimidated by PC's..... just make sure you buy an "anti-static wrist strap"....

Ok, I'll configure the parts at newegg to see the cost... but do you have any suggestions for a good case? No fancy lights/windows if at all possible...single color with a good power supply, if you could suggest some brands to look at I would appreciate it. Also, a good Athlon64 support motherboard? Thanks!

Yeah, the motherboard has 2 PCI-E16x slots and the GFX is PCI-E. Would it be worth upgrading to SLI for another 40 bucks?

Thanks for that site jaydee, read up on the building guide and cooling stuff but I'm ordering from Newegg. I don't need extra cooling if I get the case listed above right? It has the PS fan and 3 80mm case fans I believe, would that be sufficient?
