I was wondering a couple of things. 1) Since DVD-RB does such a great job with encoding will there really be any visible difference to choose "main movie only" instead of the entire disc. I figure since the encoding level doesn't seem to matter as much as it does with Shrink and Recode that I should just always use full disc backup. 2) Can anybody provide me with a link to where to update CCE Basic 2.70? I've looked everywhere including the visible light and CCE homepage and found nothing. Is it even necessary to update CCE Basic since the encoder already produces great results. Will the updates even matter? 3) Is it possible to undo the menu locks like Shrink and Recode so I can pop a disc in and press menu and go straight to the menu? Usually I get the ghostbusters logo during some trailers, disclaimers and company logos that I usually don't have to sit through when using Shrink or Recode. This feature, imho would make this app perfect. 3) I'm interested in 1.0 pro because I want to try the movie only although it seems DVD-RB does such a great job that I can just do full DVDs from now on only removing unwanted audio tracks. Where can I download it? If I have to donate, how much must I donate. Any help much appreciated.
I have a dual processor, so as we speak I am using DVD-RB Pro 1.0 with CCE 2.67! I like just the one click movie mode. that's all I want from a backup! Besides, I want better quality for the movie so there is less comperssion without all the extra stuff! Meat and potato only! http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/cinema_craft_encoder.cfm this is where you can download the CCE 2.70 trial version. I think a donation of 25.00 now will get you RB Pro 1.0. I don't know about menu lock cause I don't include the menus, warning screens, previews, ads or any extras at all! More room for the movie and that means better quality! Watch it on a big screen and zooooooooooooommmmmmm in! You'll see the difference!
1) I use RB/CCE2.70 all the time and always get the full disc, and I can't notice any quality difference whatsoever (and I'm a person who looks for imperfections) even on an 8GB+ movie. 2) I'm at work right now but when I get home if I remember I'll post a link to the CCE update site. 3) anydvd has an option to remove all advertisements and trailers and you have the option to go to the main movie right away or the main menu.
VJbob, In regards to the menu lock question you asked, some of the best money ever spent by me for video software was DVDRemake by dimadsoft. It will allow you to remove any parts of the video you don't want. It removes them it doesn't just replace them with a still picture (advantage over shrink and recode2) although it can insert a still picture if you so choose. I use it 99% of the time to remove previews, trailers, adverts, warning screens, and any extras I don't want leaving a functional menu, the movie, bloopers, deleted/extended scenes, and any extras I do want to keep. I then use RB/CCE to encode but you can use any encoder/transcoder of your liking. I highly recommend this software. Mort
Mort....... I have the same software and I do the same thing...... but I also like DVDcopy2 with DVD43........works just fine and as I just want the movie only! And the quality is great!
Just thought I would add another good combination to the mix here.. AVI2DVD and CCE work pretty darn good together too. AVI2DVD is a little easier to use than DVD Remake not quite all the options of DVDRM but it does produce darn near perfect copies using CCE as the encoder it also comes with several free incoders itself that work very well to. You can also batch process with AVI2DVD like in DVD Remake. Just thought I would throw in another choice out there
bbmayo, I have never used that proggy. Do you have a guide for it? Does it allow you to edit out blocks and Video Title Sets you don't want? Mort
I don't think it will let you do all that as I said earlier it doesn't do as much as Rebuilder. It lets you convert from NTSC to PAL or vise vursa. It lets you choose Audio (Like Shrink) It will convert just about anything from AVI to DVD or Just DVD to DVD5. Using one of the 3 encoders provided or you can use CCE. It lets you add your own subtitles if you want. It lets you choose your audio bit rate (up to 640!) You can load a whole bunch of DVD's in it at once and then process them when you go to bed. Then wake up and presto you will have a bunch of ISO's of your movies for burning. It is actually real easy to use no need for a guide you will be a pro at it after one go. The one to talk to about this proggy would be Rotary as he has been using it for sometime, and he is the one that clued me into it. Best of all it is free PS I only rip the main movie so I am really not sure about taking out or editing blocks of video, but I am about 90% sure this will not do it. You could just use another free proggy for that VobBlanker ;-) Here is where you can get it if you are interested http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/AviDvd--beta-Download-20004.html Cheers
Thanks for the info bb, I've already got enough gunk cluttering up my pc and besides I already have DVD-RB Pro 1.0 RC2 and as you know it also has batch processing. Ya never know I may play around with it sometime if I get bored. Thanks again. Mort BTW VobBlanker looks much more complicated compared to DVDRemake although I have never used it but have read guides.
Mort- Yeah I asked about Remake before but Sophocles told me that it could ruin the structure of DVDs and I didn't want to worry about such a hassle. Plus JDobbs said he would consider removing the menu locks. However, I am interested in Remake if it works for people. Is it as difficult as some programs like IFOedit? Where do I get it and how much are we talking about? I did a search on this site and they don't have DVDremake here.
VJbob, There's only been a couple times I had problems with DVDRM messing up the dvd structure in which case I just backed up entire disc or movie only. With practice you learn what you can and can't remove. It's very simple to operate. I don't have IFOEdit cause it looked way to complicated and DVDRM does everything I need done. Here is the link http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php There should be a guide there too. If you have any questions or need help feel free to pm me. Mort
I found out that with DVD-RB, you really dont' need DVDRemake if you just want the movie! click the setting for JUST MOVIE without menu and whaaaaaaaalllllllllllaaaaaaaa! But, I play it safe and I do take out menus and everything else with Remake and then use Rebuild to just do the movie! I only do that when I see that some movies need to be condensed down more than I want the one click progies to fix! Soooooo until the DLs get cheaper then I will use Remake and Rebuild after DVDD! Or, like I said, if I can't get a 1:1 with DVDFab Express or DVDCopy3 then it's 1 1/2 hours with DVDD, Remake, and Rebuild with CopytoDVD at 4X!!!!!! great results anyway you want to choose it!~
IHoe, If all you want is the movie, why don't you just select main movie files under the edit tab when you rip with dvdd? I like dvdremake because I like to backup more than just the movie. I like to keep a functional menu, the movie, deleted/extended scenes, bloopers, and sometimes some of the extras. Mort
I do select just the main movie button on my programs.......... I also love the 1:1 quality of a movie but it has to fit 4464! If it doesn't then I use DVDD, Remake, Rebuild, and then copy to DVD! This way I am assured the best quality if I have to compress!!! And...... the only reason why I don't do the whole disk is the fact that it takes space for the movie! And, yes I used to do it that way and I liked using Remake to hide buttons, keep the scene select, and stuff like that. I would rather have the movie and I like when it starts right away. No waiting! no previews, warning screens, menus or anything ONLY THE MOVIE. Cool stuff that Remake, but I find it easier to JUST HIT THE MOVIE ONLY OR ONE CLICK ON REBUILD FOR JUST THE MOVIE! It's all about what works for you and I love what I'm getting! check out my collection: http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/IHoe
The regular vs will work fine for most applications. I just rescently upgraded to the pro vs. You can upgrade anytime. Mort
Man. . .This program is confusing. I downloaded the trial and I think its in 'spanish' or something. Not intuitive at all. Is there a guide or something that explains how this works?
http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremake/index.php download the dvdremake pro user manual. It is very similiar to the reg vs. If you still have questions pm me. Mort
ok tried remake. Not so hard afterall but the 'export' files are awful. I've never seen so much pixelation in a DVD, it looked like a movie compressed at 40%. But then again I was using version 2.6 borrowed from a friend.
