there have been alot of posts about this problem, but once people get their sh.. fixed they never repost w/ the solution.. I just upgraded to vista, have 100+ dvd.iso's on an ext. hdd, 1-aopen 4410 dvd+rw and 1 (dont know manufac) dvd+rw dl. never had a problem with either, til all the sudden recently neither work. now i can GUARANTEE some1 will tell me my medias cheap---imation- i agree ..and thats why i buy it! BUT it works well inmy standalone and its never been a prob until now. not outdated firmware cuz BOTH drives stopped burning at the same time? since the vista upgrade ive made 2 successfull movies out of like 75 tries. i get errors from: positioning error to illegal media to not recognizing discs, hanging on lead in, cannot perform end of disc at once. rarely its successfull but when it is the system views the disc as blank--and some are, some you can see have been burned to. they almost all lockup my system. this is now just nero, imgburn, dvdd, ashampoo etc. .. its a system problem not software or firmware or bad drives. ( since the vista thing my 6yo dtr doesnt "recognize" the look of things and just click click clicks til something looks familiar)<---i think thats what happened

heres my log compared to everyother one ive seen, i noticed in mine that under === Scsi-Device-Map ===mines blank??? every1 else has devices listed. and also nothing listed under:
    IA32
WinAspi: -????? WTF? I used force aspi 4.6 i think??? tried soooo many things. any help please i need to free up some room on the hdd and dont wanna just del the movies?????

Vista never showed a WinASPI for me and it worked fine.

You might try uninstalling and installing the latest version. There were some fixes for Vista.

Vista also doesn't show DMA status in the log, so you might check it directly. Also check if the Device Manger shows any annotations next to the drives.

Is this a upgrade from WinXP, or a clean install? I would probably look into problems with the IDE controllers.

it was a clean install, device manager says everything is working prop., currently trying to burn vts files thru nero express, and its hanging at 3% for 4 minutes now. get this that saw 3 disc that locked things up a while ago...after reboot played in wmp and stand alone (kinda choppy in wmp though...but so is every mp3 i play in wmp) im working on it

    barkroc2,

Forum rules ask that you not bump threads and that if your post is the last in the thread you edit the last one instead of multiple posts in a row ;)

  10. barkroc2

so do i have this straight?? basically, as a moderator, i would assume your pretty well "up on" the information relating to the boards your moderating? in the 2 forums i help moderate, i consider myself to be very knowledgeable of the board topic. and i try to assist people as much as my knowledge allows. this forum chooses a different approach w/ the exception of a few helpful regulars: let the SAME problem come up time and time again...going unanswered 99% of the time. i cant "bump" and i cant have back to back posts??? so if my ??? goes unanswered and drops 3 pages deep in 24 hours, and i try something new, get a different error leading me to a new ??, etc. then i gotta wait til some1 scrolling the "archives" posts a reply to my original ??? before i can ask?? you coulda been a little helpful and offered some suggestion as to where i can look or something i may try differently, but youd rather quote the rules???

WHATEVER DUDE im sure ill probably get banned for this, and this message deleted, but hopefully some1 will read it and take it into consideration before it is. i have found this (nero discussion<--ironic) to be a very 1 sided and unproductive forum anyhow. wheres the "rule" about the part time moderator who only gets on to see what rules he can enforce?

Try a different version of Nero, I prefer 7.5.9.0

Sad you should think this way...I believe we do the best we can...try asking Nero for help and see how good they are!!

I suppose you are aware that vista has been designed to not allow people to back up dvd's and music disks?

Most people who use rip/burn software know better than to install that crap.. which is why there isn't much help. Very few people are stupid enough to use a drm filled OS and then complain when something it has been designed to prevent doesn't work...

Have you tried some different burning programs? Nero ain't nothing special.. there are lots of free ones. Have you even thought that it may be a good idea to run that registry fixer thing when you uninstalled nero? Get a clean platform.. The coasters only started with vista.. I can see a connection here..

So you are a moderator somewhere.. whoopy-doo.. I'm an Admin and Owner of 2 sites... and I have been admin on a couple of household name sites in the past.. I don't argue with the mods here.. they are very tolerant and helpful considering...

1st of all, i appreciate all the time taken for you to think about my problem and reply. and i wasnt bragging about being a mod, just saying that i understand the kinda crap we gotta deal with. im very active in my forums and for the most part when i point out a ...not so..obvious rule, i usually follow it up with a point in the right direction. so NOW im getting answers tho, guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease eh? anyway i can burn any cd u throw at me, just not dvds..data or vid. 1 outta 10 works, and usually on the rw's-maybe something to do with the close track deal? it always hangs there forever. and vista ..tho a pain in the a.., will burn iso's just not on my system. nero, imgburn, all of em screw up 1 way or another. same outcome difft errors. and im not making coasters, im making blank dvds- gracias for the time

Sorry.. I was a bit out of order.. long and stressful day.

Are you able to burn anything at all, with any burning proggies?

edit:::.. I went and had a google around..

Seems you are not alone. The main thing that crops up time and time again is vista isn't seeing the drives as burners.
May be worth checking in device manager, and possibly reinstalling the burner.

Other programs reported to work.. nero 6.6 .. SwiftDisc 1.78: http://www.swiftdisc.com ..and .. Gear pro 7

See.. I was just having a bad day.. ;-)

    barkroc2,

I don't care what forums you play around in normally but you're in the one I moderate now so the wiseass attitude better stop. I'm not sure what podunk places you moderate but this one is VERY busy with 1,500+ new posts a day so if I don't have time to hold you're hand then shut your yap and deal with it. I'm glad you're the Mother Teresa of Moderators but I'm not so remember that.
