Hey everyone, ive had local tv for ages! 10 years. I need sattelite, but cant afford it! I want to unlock all dish network channels. I have a Directtv sattelite dish that said could be used fine. Here is the receiver i want.

    http://www.tvtoyz.com/Fortec_Star_Lifetime_Ultra.htm

Will this combo work well??? Do I need to know what codes i need to unlock dish network channels. And is there a map of dish network towers? Or do i have to guess where to put the sattelite dish?
Also, is there any other programming i would need to do for dish network channels?Does the receiver run to my computer or tv??? Someone please help me here, i need detailed info on how to hook this stuff up.

Um, well if you want the cheap way to go, that is kewl. I suggest these instead...

pay attention to the Dream Box's. Those are the Cadillacs, a little pricey, but remember you get what you pay for.....

you can't hold the pansat accountable for something blacklist did willingly, HE screwed people, not the box. i love my 2500A. yeah i know it's time to upgrade but i cant bitch if my stuff works great!

How much should the whole setup cost? I've heard some say $300 but others have receivers alone that go up to 800!

It sounds like to get more I'd need a motorized dish and have it more than 30 inches.

Also is it true that much of it is going to be cut out if it goes to another layer of encryption...?

my box was around $100, and i already had the dish, i added the 2nd LNB for about $20. i haven't heard anything about any new encryption except for the niagra2 switch, which has already been fixed.

In other words what I ment was if they realize how many people can see them on fta receivers how long will it be before another form of encyption (either higher version number or different format) comes out?

So if you have a key to unlock the encryption would it be working for months or years or ?

    I guess that's true...

oppinions are like a$$holes, everyone's got one...i don't blame anyone for the pansat situation. it is the name of the game here. i suggest to anyone who wants to keep up on the situation to buy a receiver that has open source code, like a DB. i am getting mines'!

@darthnip, I've been doing some research on the Pansat series. They say the 2700 replaces the 2500. Do you know anything about the 2700 that would suggest it may not be as good as the 2500. The 2500a was my first choice and there are some still available. Just looking for some input from our members. Is there another model you would pick as your upgrade?

hey jerry, sorry it took so long to get back to you, i was just going over some threads while loafing a bit at work. i just got the chance to play with a 2700A and it is truly a nice box. there were some issues getting 119 to come in fully, but i think a faulty LNB was the problem. one definate advantage over the 2500 is the EPG, the one on the 2700 damn near looks like the TV guide channel! which is nice compared to what the 2500 offers. i mean you could actually hit the EPG button on the remote and scroll thru all the channels instead of having to actually flip to them liek the 2500. I've also heard very good things about the coolsat and the dreambox, but i have yet to get my hands on one. i cant really say anything bad about the 2500A still, mine still works great and i have had no issues, so if it aint broke, i aint gonna fix it.

@darthnip, I bought the 2700 and its up and running over a week now. Got both 110 and 119 off an old 18 inch dish with the poor man's setup. 82% signal and 99% quality off both birds. I'm well satisfied with the 2700 so far. If I find a bigger dish cheap I may change that but so far everything works better than expected. Thanks for the reply.

With the winter season starting I hope I have more time to do exactly that. I sometimes put 10/12 hr days in at the store I manage but it slows down in winter somewhat. Later.

Let me guess cable provider might be comcast? Usually if you ran a splitter you'd be able to get the basic cable..as that's what I do in one house....

Sometimes you might find a cable tuner in some vcr's or dvd players...I use a rca pvr that actually picks up basic as well (1-99 for channels unless scrambled)

Another thing to get channels other than a fta dish is a hdtv tuner. Basically there was a service called Voom that came out that is now defunct (services moved to dish) but the boxes still work for OTA (rabbit ears) on a standard tv it looks excellent (granted you have to know how to move the antenna see antennaweb.org) I think there's some from dishnetwork and direct tv that upgraded boxes so the older ones might have this on them (they'd be apt to maybe even give them away) I paid about 75 for a voom box and it's pretty good. You also get some more stations from pbs, pax and some weather ones.
