Something most odd... Starview Super

    I am completely stumped...

I've recently uploaded GTRom_super_705e on to Thebox Super and all had been well for a week or so. When, in the menu (adjusting time settings) the box would not allow me to exit out back to normal TV viewing.

The box is currently stuck, only allowing movement between the main installation menu and the language menu. Typing 1570 doesn't help. The machine will not exit out of the menu screens at all.

I had a similar problem with a Thebox2 which is sat on a shelf here and also out of service. Both are genuine and their flashes up to date and were working fine to start with.

Any ideas? Can't see any similar problems elsewhere on the board.

    Thanks.

Have you tried flashing with other firmwares, dependent on your batch type try 7.09 and 6.01.

    Thanks Scouser, I'll try that.

Have you seen that before then? I haven't seen it posted anywhere.

I wonder if it's the same problem with the "Thebox" also... I had flashed thebox_UK_H20070709_451eE_api to that... could that be a batching thing as well?

No very strange for two different models to have the same symptoms. Did you buy them from the same supplier? Why not reflash The Box also, all you need is in Eamos at the bottom of my post.

Yes I did get them from the same source. I had given the earlier one to my brother and this is my daughters one. I've had others that have been problem-free though.

    It's really odd...

Anyway, I'll try that update on the TheboxSuper. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again...

In fact, when I think on, I had reflashed the Thebox with thebox_UK_H20070709_451eE_api when it went down... but no joy with that one...

    Odd, eh?

Lets sort the Super first ;) But did you ever contemplate using different firmwares on The Box? Same supplier for two dodgy boxes doesnt sound too good though.

    Hello!

I've got the "Thebox Super" working as normal again without reflashing it.

One of the options on the menu screens was installation, so I rescanned for channels (because it WOULD let me do that) then found I could exit out of the menus from there - although I had to go back in to on the EMU again...

It's an odd problem but, if it happens to anyone else, at least I now know how to fix it.

Meanwhile I think I have killed the "Thebox 2" by trying to flash more up-to-date "Thebox 2" firmware onto it. That will not power up properly now and dies after a second or two... do you think that's it for that box?

    It's all experience, isn't it..?

    Cheers, BG.

flash the original firmware onto the box. have it off at the back, press download and then turn it on. if it doesn't start downloading try again it may take a few tries.

Thanks very much people, I've managed to reflash STARVIEW_H20070607_400eE_api onto the "Thebox" and although it won't auto-update the keys it IS working.

    I really appreciate the help.

It won't take thebox_UK_H20070709_451eE_api though, which I understood to be the correct current flash for this box - flashing this causes the box to lock up before fully switching on, but if somebody could point me in the right direction I should be able to get this box back to full health again too.

    Thanks again.
