I'm not too smart with all this. Maybe someone can help me out. Thanks in advance. Sonic Record Now v.7 is what came with my computer. What all do I need to download in order to burn DVDs?

Forget Sonic(it sucks), download DVD decrypter and DVD Shrink v.3.1.7 Both can be found here in AD and both are free. If your dvd is under 4.3 you can rip and burn using decrypter only. If it is over 4.3 you rip and re-author and/or compress with shrink, then burn with decrypter. If you are serious about DVD backup, I recommend buying Nero Ultra 6. It is a complete video and audio package. You can back up dvd's, record cd's, it has file conversions, able to create menus for home videos, create dvd covers for your dvd's, PC backup discs, and a ton of other stuff all under one roof. It normally sells for 99.00 which considering all it does is a steal, but you can buy it at eagletronics for 49.00(BTW, cost of Sonic) right now. However you can use the 2 apps I gave you and create a backup dvd at no cost other than your disc. Oh yeah, your media can cause a lot of unwarranted problems, buy branded(name on disc)Ritek G04's or Verbatim discs. You can get ritek at meritline for .69ea./100 with free shipping, newegg has 'em right now for .59ea/with free shipping. Good luck, there are guides for all of these apps, and hundreds of threads dealing with any problems you might encounter, if you can't then figure it out, just ask and someone will help.

Have to disagree biorange. I've had more success burning with sonic than dvd decrypter. But like you said dvd shrink and decrypter will work fine.

Deeman, as with most things everybody has their own opinion and nobody is more right or more wrong, especially in the field of dvd backups. I'm only speaking from my experience. I have over 20 programs dealing in this area and for me, I do not like sonic. Especially when you compare it to Intervideo DVDCopy 2, Pinnacle InstantCopy 8, Nero's recode, and Rebuilder/CCE Basic. I think shrink, which is free is a much better app than sonic. I have both record now and My DVD and care for neither. For ripping it's hard to beat decrypter, it's fast and I've yet to see a movie it couldn't bust, it's file mode is compatible with all other apps and it's free. The only other ripper I use is AnyDVD, mostly for on the fly burning. So, that is why I recommended what I did, and if you're happy with Sonic, then my advice to you is to stick with it, ya know what I mean, verne?

I know what you mean. I can only speak from my experience also. I don't have nero because sonic came with my drive and then found no need for it after using decrypt, shrink, smart ripper. Haven't found a movie I couldn't back up. Not to say I won't have problems in the future. I'm just happy there are so many alternatives.
