    Hello,

My brand new Sony 3500 ES receiver is shutting down under a load whether it be watching an action packed movie with volume up not super high or trying to crank up the tunes.
I have very good Def tech speakers and I cannot enjoy them. Does anyone have ideas for me to resolve this issue. I have bannana clips plugged into the rec. and I'm checking all the connections tonight. Thanks in advance.

    Don't play it so loud!

If you want to play your music louder you should have bought a bigger receiver. What you are experiencing is clipping. Depending on the speakers, even with a large receiver clipping can start at as little as 1/4 volume. Better speakers often require more power.

I took the time to check out your receiver, no RMS power is listed in the specs at Sony. I will assume it looks more powerful than it is. NEVER buy a amp without knowing how powerful it is unless you don't mind playing it a 1/4 or maybe even 1/8 volume.

Also note that the bass notes are the ones that use all the power. The lower the note the more power is needed. If you have setting for base turn it down.
