I am looking for a new combo drive.
Anybody know if there are any problems with the Sony AWG170AB2?
Or are there any other recommendations? Or are seperate cd and dvd drives a bettter option?? Thanks

    I'd stick with these brands:
    LiteOn
    Pioneer
    NEC
    Plextor

And features to look out for are:
    -Bitsetting/Booktyping
    -Lightscribe (optional)

Thanks! I am looking at the Pioneer DVR-111 DVD+/-R/RW/RAM MultiWriter, it seems to have good reviews but not sure about the Bitsetting/Booktyping bit. Not worried about lightscribe.

I belevie the Pioner 111 doesn't booktype, but the Pioneer 111D does. Good drive though :D

Still not decided yet! Too busy etc. etc.
Any drawbacks with LH-18A1H-483C? have read a couple of posts and it seems to have good reviews.

After all this, I finally got a BenQ 1650. I had noticed a lot of people recommended this and they have been happy with them. My next question is... Do I just plug in and use or does it need to be tweeked for max performance?

Not too bad, I guess. That's about $50US plus shipping for the retail version. Too bad they don't ship to the USA. You'll be happy you made that choice! Good solid burner.
