Is their any way I can use the Sony cdrw/dvd CRX830E Burner that came with my Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop. Or as I supect do I need to buy another DVD burner ? I'm using Nero 6 Thanks Velroc
Hello velroc. Unfortunately, that drive only can read DVDs and burn CDs. You have a couple of options: 1. Install a laptop DVD burner in place of the existing Sony combo drive. 2. Use an external DVD burner. To use an external DVD burner with your laptop you need to have either USB2 or Firewire (IEEE 1394) communication ports on your laptop. If you have either, you can either purchase an OEM external burner or purchase an internal burner and install it in an external enclosure yourself. For brands of burners, I prefer BenQ and NEC. For enclosures, I prefer Plumax and Bytecc. I've had good luck with both. The Prolific chipset is preferred for Firewire communication. As for laptop drives, I have a NEC 6750 and it has been a very good burner. However, laptop burners are more fragile and finicky than 1/2 height desktop burners so unless you have a pressing need to burn DVDs while away from home, I'd go with the external USB2/Firewire option.
