    All,
First thanks to all the Sony DRU-500A owners sharing their experiences on the drive and specifically with DVD-R media. This saved me a ton of headaches and expense.

Now to my ?. What's the best DVD+RW media for my DRU-500A drive? Suggestions on where to buy would also be appreciated.

    Thanks, _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Shawn[/small]

Try verbatim dvd+rw. Not the cheapest but it is very reliable.

I have ordered this same drive and have been waiting for it to arrive. I will be anxious to see compatabilities of DVD-R and DVD+RW's. Any brands to stay away from?

It is easier to answer what brands you should order :)

I have been testing few disk brands and am using LynxDV and Verbatim for now. They both are very realiable disks. Verbs are expensive but 100% reliable. LynxDV is average priced, 99% reliable.

Generally, all Ritek based disks are good. But Beware of Datasafe, they are using Ritek Gen3 Grade B disks, so exect some coasters...

You can order lynxDV from www.lynxdv.co.uk .

In general, I have noticed: do not ask where you can get the cheapest media. Ask where you can buy quality media with good prices. Cheap disks always tend to let you down.

Thanks! I have ordered some Sony DVD-r's too becuase I heard of good success rate with backing up PS2 DVD games with these DVD-r's. I ordered drive on Nov 25 from Dell and still waiting ..... (est ship date Dec23). Sure I will have MANY more questions when it arrives.

Good to know I'm not the only person waiting on a drive. I ordered on 12/8 and am waiting as well.

    I own a SONY DRU120A +R/+RW writer I Don't
know about the SONY 500 but my 120 +R/RW won't
write to R/RW disk. As far as disk go I buy from Tigerdirect.com and have a 100% sucess rate with the EMTEC +R/RW and the
e-ProFProFormance R/RW disk. Before you buy disk make sure your writer will write to the disk you get.

Hey SFurgy, who did you order from? I ordered from Dell and was told 1-2 weeks on their website. After order confirmation, I was given 12/23 as ship date (paid on 11/25). Got an e-mail yesterday saying it is STILL delayed and estimated ship date now 1-2-03. REALLY SUCKS!

dvdrookie. I ordered from eCost. I'm pretty much in the same boat... backordered without any clear ship date. I've done some checking and it appears that almost everyone is back-ordered.. including SONY.

I realize this is off topic so send me a private message if you are able to locate the drive at another supplier.

    Best of luck.

    Hello There
I have bought a Sony DRU 500A writer and cannot get the driver working with Nero 5.5,9,2 bundled
and using the Wizard it just gives me the possibillity to check the CD button and the the 2 other choices DD CD and DVD are light grey and can't be reached.
When I select Recorder and then Choose recorder it just gives me the option
Image recorder and as Adapter Virtual device
I already uninstalled Nero using Software and Uninstall Nero
After installing Nero again, reboot the pc still the same.
When I choose Recorder and then Track display it asks me which drive :
    Toshiba DVD rom SD-M1212
    Sony DVD RW DRU-500A
so he does recognizes my dvd drive, choosing the Sony it gives me :
    DVD Session
    Session 1 (4.483Nb)
    Track 01 : 0 4.590.208Kb (Data modus 1)
Which makes sense because there's a empty DVD-RW in the drive

So I'm lost here and hope you can help me out

    Thanks already
