    Hi guys,

My DVD-RW drive suddenly stopped recognizing blank media today. I was making some backups, and suddenly the drive would not recognize that there was a disc in the drive. I went to My Computer, and the drive was listed as DVD-RW Drive (E:). After putting in a blank dvd, however, it changes to CD Drive (E:), and if I try to access the drive I get an error saying E:\ is not accessible Incorrect Function. If I put in a disc with information already on it (like a DVD), it reads it without a problem. I have since run a sweep of my antivirus program and updated the drive's firmware. I also tried system restore, turned off and unplugged the computer, and reinstalled the drivers. Nothing is working!

Is anyone familiar with this problem? Can anyone help?

Thank you very much for your time in advance.

    Jeremy

Hey man, Im having the exact same problem. It just came out of no where for me 2. Im still tryin to figure out exactly what happened. Im running a Custom Built System with a 1.2GHz AMD Duron, a Lite-on 1693s-SOHW DVD+/-RW burner, and I'm Dual Booting XP original with XP sp2 (hardware compatibility issues). I cannot read blank media under either versions of XP. Plz let me kno if you find a solution.

    Thx.

    Robert

Oddly enough, mine simply started working again. I've burned a few DVD's since then, no problem. My system is custom built too, which hurts for technical assistance, so I feel your pain there. I guess the gremlins are leaving me alone for now, however.

Well unfortunately for me, I ended up reformating my whole system. (That was painful!!!) But at least the problem is gone now! Wish you the best of luck.
