    @Blue_Oval,

    Just out of curiosity, what kind of blank media are you using to do your back up/burn? I've had my Sony DRU 710A (BYX4 current firmware) since November 2004 and I've never experienced any issue while burning. However, I only use genuine Yuden (including Fuji & Sony "M.I.J" only), Maxell (Made In Japan) and a few Verbatim, and they all backed up flawlessly at 8X.

    @Blue_Oval,

    If by chance can you post your Nero error log in here, so other members can take a look at it and see if we can help you out. Remember to edit or take out your Nero serial # that starts with something like 1A23XX-XXXXX in prior to post it in here alright.

    I use Sony media as well, but the only Sony media I use is SONY 8X DVD+R MADE IN JAPAN. What is the id code of your Sony media by chance?

    @Blue_Oval,

    I can't really comment on the SONY 8X DVD-R simply because I've never used them before. As I've stated earlier that I've used the Sony 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" id code: YUDEN000-T02-00 only, and it backed up flawlessly. Here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=2140#comments is what I found in regards to the Sony 8X DVD-R at vcdhelp.com - looks like it's a decent media to me due to more people have successful burned on them.

    Were you able to change the write/burn speed on Nero at all? It would be nice to see your Nero's error log though, if only you can provide.

    Everything else looks good to me so far, but I don't know why you said your backed up is choppy right? Did you at least try to burn at 6X or 8X and compare that to the 4X to see if you notice any changes? Were you doing something else i.e. surfing the net, or do you have any other programs running while backing up? This sometimes may trigger and causes your back up copied to be choppy due to low memory. Other than that, you should be all square away though, except the 3 below.

    I thought you said you updated the firmware already..?? It's newest firmware is JY03, try to update it if you feel comfortable.

    If you can, try to update your Nero - its latest version is 6.6.0.16

    Try to free up more memory when you're burning. Looks like your computer may have used too much of memory in this case.
