For alittle while now my Sony DRU 720A with firmware JYO8 won't burn DVD-R but will burn DVD +R. Anytime I user a DVD-R they always get an error in Nero when burning VOB files or using DVD Decrypter with .ISO files. I never really liked using DVD+R because I can never get media back off because my burner wont recognize it but can recognize it to burn to. I always use Memorex discs also never had a problem till recently. Any suggestions? Is it possible there is a settings where they wont burn my DVD-R or maybe just bad media? I bought at 2 different locations and 2 different times and same problem when burnning THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi, long ago I had DRU-710A, and it starteed having that same problem where it would not recognize DVD-R at all, tried burning with no luck. Although it perfectly burned and recognized DVD+R. I was sure it was not my computer or any other external factor, because the burner worked perfectly before, and the new burner I decided to buy also worked flawlessly.

Now It may be possible that your burner its starting to fail, as I know those 720A are not that new. Do you burn often? and how long have you been using the burner?

I dont think is bad media, unless you been having this problem exclusively with this Memorex disc and as you said this discs worked perfectly before, still it would not be a bad idea to buy some verbatims, or sony to check if the problem is resolved.

Thanks for the reply, I will try another disc just to be safe but I do burn an awful lot. I think I will check the media on my Sisters computer with the HP burner she has and then try another brand media. I have had the DRU 720A since it cost over $100! LOL! But it actually might be failng, have to look into upgrading possibly

Ill try media at my sisters though because I cant even burn 2 songs as a data disc on those discs
