    Hi all

Does anyone recommend the DRU-800A rewriter or the DRU-810A one, and what is/are the differences between the two?

I previously had a Sony DW-D22A rewriter drive, and I think that because of Power Calibration errors, it could be on the way out.

I am thinking of replacing it with the Sony DW-Q28A rewriter, or would the Sony DRU-800A/Sony DRU-810A be a better choice, or maybe not at all?

What would you recommend - stick with Sony, or go for something else?

I look forward to your response.

    Thanks again and regards

The DW-Q28A is the same as the 800A, its just the OEM version. Both of these drives are a rebadge of the Lite-on 1693. The 810A is a rebadge of the Benq 1640. I recently added a DW-Q28A and have had no problems with it. The only real problem with going with the 28A is you won't see as many firmware updates. But then you could always flash it with the 800A or Lite-on firmware.

    Hi Mike

    Many thanks for your reply.

I ordered a Sony DRU-800A rewriter on Monday 10/01/2006 and it should arrive today.

I will install it by itself and will also flash the latest firmware if I need to before proceeding with burning any new discs.

I will let you know how it goes - please feel free to add your
opinion(s) and any advice that you may want to pass on.

I look forward to your response.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards
