I recently purchased a Sony DRU-810A. With a great sense of expectation I popped the first DVD-R into my drive and tried to write around 4 gigs at 2.4x. Result: coaster. since the quality of media was questionable I let it pass and tried again with another. Same result. this repeated itself for the next couple of dvds. I then upgraded the firmware to 1.0d and nero to 6, 6, 0, 18. finally i was able to complete the burn. This however was not the end of my problems. The coasters continued. For the same set of files, the writing process seemed to terminate at different points. A change in media to a more reliable brand, one that noone else with the same drive seemed to have a problem with, produced no change in results. The following is a Nero log of one such failed burn: ====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ====== none whatsoever 1A22-[bold]serial number removed[/bold] Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'D:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 10:05:32 PM Nero Version: 6.6.0.18 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 18e Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-810A> Version: 1.0d - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.18 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <SONY DVD RW DRU-810A >Version: 1.0d - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.18 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y080L0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-810A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : LY9321X FWY506J 1.0 dtscsi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === SONY DVD RW DRU-810A G: CDRom0 LY9321X FWY506J I: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 0 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 767MB (785908kB) Free physical memory: 462MB (473444kB) Memory in use : 39 Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 1.2.2006 ISO compilation 12:09:48 PM #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6359 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 12:09:48 PM #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 12:09:48 PM #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer SONY DVD RW DRU-810A running 12:09:48 PM #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 12:09:48 PM #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 12:09:48 PM #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2116527 (470:20.27, 4133MB) 12:09:48 PM #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 12:09:48 PM #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: SONY DVD RW DRU-810A, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: ENGAGE - 01 Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 12:09:48 PM #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 12:09:48 PM #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2116528 (2116528) = #2116528/470:20.28 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2116528 blocks [SONY DVD RW DRU-810A] -------------------------------------------------------------- 12:09:48 PM #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [SONY DVD RW DRU-810A] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; what blank media were you using?? i would suggest you go get a new burning software. nero does not work well at times. try to get the clonedvd2 and anydvd and mention afterdawn and you can get both of them for onl 49.99
Please edit out your serial#. It looks like this: 1A13-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx [bold]Disc Manufacturer: ENGAGE - 01[/bold] I never heard of that MID code. It may be pure garbage! Use nero infotool to find the MID codes of all those blanks you have tried. Then post them back. The Sony dru 810A is a rebadged benq 1640. Just has a different chip set. Being almost a benq 1640-different firmware, try some quality plus media.Office Max has verbatim 16x on sale tomorrow. Try a pack of +16x. When you updated nero: Did you run the nero cleantool utility? Usually when you remove nero, remnants are left over that can cause issues. You need to go into add/remove program-uninstall nero. Then download nero cleantool6. Run the program, install nero-and leave out the INCD packet. Here's the link: http://www.nero.com/nero6/de/Nero_6_Clean_Tool.html
If you just got the Sony 810 try taking it back and getting a different one, I have the Sony 800A and had problems with it, but flashed it to KY06 and now it works great.
I have a DRU-810A and it works like a charm. Im using TDK 16x DVD+R media and burn DVD backups with it at 16x without any problems at all. I also upgraded to the latest firmware and am using Nero so I dont think the burner is the problem.
I noticed that noone mentioned that when burning Double Layer disks with this burner, you MUST use Verbatim DL disks, as no other disk seems to work. I tried several brands before contacting Sony where I was told that this drive ONLY worls with Verbatim DL disks. Additionally, I have found that when burning DL disks with this drive, they are not readable with my other optical drive (Lite-On Combo SOHC-4832K). Single layer disks burnt with the Sony seem to work well in just about any drive or player. All in all, I am satisfied with the drive, but if I were to do it over, I would most definately purchase a different brand.
just passing...even though original post is a few months old have edited the serial number out and teleported the thread to the Nero forum. as to updating to 6.6.1.4 - don't do it!, see here for reasons not to use 6.6.1.4 - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/317495 and http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/325848
Recommend you stick with your present version, it's bug free. Firmware 1 version behind, update from here http://www.sonyisstorage.com/bv_downloads/cpce/dvd/810A_1.0e.exe Never heard of these discs, try some Verbatim or Sony that are made in Japan Your burner doesnt like your discs Get some new discs as mentioned and update firmware, cheers.
