Purchased this late last week, $20 rebate. Start burning some DVD's with no problems. Yesterday I install a DVD player so as not to wear out the burner. Burn LOTR Two Towers - no problem. Rip the second LOTR and try to burn. DVDDecrypter (dual layer burning) says media not ready or not being recognized. So I put regular cd's with pics in burner - error reading no disc in Drive E, other drive works fine. Pull out the burner and put in old CD burner - works fine. Exchanged it this morning for a new one. Any ideas what happened? Thanks, Nelson

When I use dvd decrypter-ISO read and write- on one of my pcs, sometimes it disables it so it doesn't recognize my blank dvd media. It usually won't recognize backups or originals when this happens. It acts like it's lost and turns into a cd-rw drive only.

I have to go into device manager under cd-rom/dvd drives/ open up the tree/locate that dvd-rw drive/uninstall drivers for that drive/and reboot. XP hooks it backup every time it happened which is 3 or 4 times.

    Do you mean DVD-Rom drive?

You had 2 drives in that pc:
How much wattage you got on your powersupply?
How did you have them configured?
Were the pins jumpered correctly-and set accordinly to the connectors on the ide ribbon cable?
    Cables ok-secured to the drives/mobo
Do you have 40 wire/40 pin ide cable or 80 wire/40 pin ide cable?

Also: When it burned ok,was this also with DL media or single layer media? We'll need more info on your media like: Format/speed rate/brand name/ dl or sl.

Media was Verbatim DVD + R DL. Not sure about cables. Yes DVD-Rom for playing DVD's. Not sure about wattage. player is master and burner is slave - if that matters. Formatted at 4x. New burner worked this afternoon, it is slow to recognize media but worked fine. I'll remember the uninstall and reboot method if it happens again. Now I just need to learn how to do book typing where all players recognize the media. Thanks, Nelson
