Right, a serious problem( arnt they all!). Im using DVD2ONE and nero burning with a sonydru500a. The disks burn fine, but, when played back, after about half an hour start to skip then freeze (audio and video). Have tried other software and disks, and have even had the drive replaced, all to no avail, im running out of hair!.

so uhm ,.. do you play your burned movie on a standalone DVD player, or on your computer?

I had the problem that the SVCD mpeg plays well on my computer, without frame-skips or audio sync problems..

but when i play it on my pioneer standalone dvd,.. it starts to skip frames, and then i got audio sync problems..

i guess that my standalone pioneer, couldnt handle Large Mpeg files (734Mb).. so i splitted it..burned it again.. and then it works fine on my standalone..

Mayby you have the same problem??????????

MMM, you might have a point, i havnt played one all the way through on the pc, though the other software i tried dvdxcopy, is supposed to work on standalone players so im not convinced, the thing is these are dvd's not vcd,s, the file structure is the same as the original dvd ie. vob's bup's and ifo's. The other thing i forgot to mention is that when the dvd freezes it starts counting through the chapters on the players display! im baffled................

    BIKERDUDE,

Bad title for your post - it's not your Sony DRU500A. In fact, I have the EXACT same set up as you... Ripped using DVD Decrypter, transcoded using DVD2One v1.11, burn with Nero on Sony DRU500A. I've used all kinds of media, from no name DVD-R's to quality DVD+R's (my favorite is Ritek DVD+R - no coasters in over 150 burns).

It's definitely player isssues... my Daewoo player chokes on a lot of backups half-way through with the same problems you're describing, but not all the time. Sometimes it'll play the same disc all the way through and other times it doesn't.

My Sony progessive scan on the other plays everything I've thrown at it so far... knock on wood.

[So why the Daewoo? Not only does it play all regin disc, but it automatically converts PAL -> NTSC... even ifoedit can't do that!!!]

    Thanks for that,
It does seem to be the likely cause. The thing that has confused the issue is the the first drive was faulty, the disks wouldnt even copy back to the pc, it would lock up then bring up a disk error message. I also tried them on 3 machines. The disks i burnt on the replacement machine i only tried on my PHILIPS DVD701 and even then i only tried 3 disks, i wasnt prepared to waste any more time and money and sent it straight back. Its being tested today so i should find out on monday whether its ok or not, i must admit i would have been surprised if it was faulty even if you hadnt told me about the drives.
Just one more question, are all writers this flaky?
    BIKERUDE.
