I have a Sony DVD/CD rewritable drive, DRU-720A, which works great when I made a copy of a DVD I purchased. It also let me make a copy of a DVD a friend lent me. However when I tried to play the copy of my friends DVD on my PC I did not have any audio, only video. I am able to play it without problem in my regular DVD player but when I use the Sony drive I cannot get sound. MY own purchased DVD plays without probelm as does the copy I made of it. I even tried making a copy of the other one on both -R and +R DVD's but still no sound. Does Sony have some sort of copyright protection built into the DVD rewritable drive that prevents burned copies made from other copies from playing cirrectly? Thanks to anyone who can help me.

if you open up the backup ( sounds better ;) ) in dvdshrink what does the main movie list as the sound ?
    5.1
    DTS
    2.0

DTS needs a proper DTS AV unit to be able to hear it.

you could just try hitting the audio button on your dvd, maybe the sound is not the default channel.

btw - what s/w do you use to rip/burn dvds
