I've been searching forums but can't find a specific one for my problem which seems simple but I can't fix it.
I have always used Sony accucore DVD+R ver.1.2/1 x 8 to burn my movies from shrink and have had no problems on my Sony d26a drive. I ran out of these and saw some Memorex 16x DVD-R on sale so I thought I'd try them out. My Sony drive won't even read them (it keeps ejecting the blank disc) but my Phillips 8801 will read and burn on them but at a very slow speed and to be honest, this drive has given me many problems before with errors (while burning with the Sony media) so I never trusted this drive which came free with my Dell.
I would like to use my Sony drive to burn but what can I do since there is no updates available and even when I reduce the burn speed, it ejects it everytime.
    Thanks for your help

It more then likly is the Memorsux disc. As you can see I added sux at the end because memorsux SUCKS!. Get diffrent media (TY's or Verbatim) that is probaly the reason your having so much trouble. You said your Sony DVD's worked before why in the world would you change the media? You went from an average media to an even worse media. So my suggestion is to take back the Memorex media to the store and tell them it is crap and see if you can get your money back.

memorex discs are of poor quality but check your firmware for your burner it may be out of date that is the reason your burner will not reconize the discs that is the purpose of firmware you will need the model number of the drive go to the firmware page.com it is possible that your burner is made by sombody other than sony

Actually, the weird thing is when I went to shut down my computer, the Sony drive error message popped up and said it was in use by another program (which it wasn't). I re-booted and all is well now. I don't now why it said that it was in use though. The memorex media I have heard was bad but for 50 dvd at $10, I took a shot and they worked out fine. What DVD-R would you suggest as good quality for the price?

I'd go with the ones that larrylje suggested...Verbatims or Taiyo Yuden.

I missed larrylje response when I was scrolling down. Thanks for the suggestion as I heard TY were one of the best but kinda expensive. If I have any problems with these Memorex discs, I'll try out the verbatim as I would believe they are cheaper than TY.

Search around for the TY discs, they can be found on Rima.com for only a buck or two more than the Verbs.

I get my Taiyo Yuden at the online store below. Uasly I can get a 200 pack for $50 to $60. Depending on what sale they have going on at the time. That is with free ground shipping. Verbatims are uasly more expensive or around the same price. So your not going to save much money between the 2.

    http://www.supermediastore.com

200 pack of 4x TY's for $49.99 on the main page.
