    OK I got these sonys from wal-mart and they come up as TYG02 so thats means that they are the Taiyo Yuden right. good because i have been using the ritekg05 they are pretty good but have been wanting the Taiyo Yuden ones but no one will ship to me because it is a new house and the address does not come up as valid also they will not ship to my po box. what other brands are sold but are made by Taiyo Yuden. it will make it easier for me to find and wal-mart or best buy. thanks everyone.

    Maxell and FujiFilm media that are made in Japan......
    Verbatims are also very good, but they're not TY's.
    Good luck!

    @bengsxr80,
    If you can find them , Fuji DVD+R & DVD-R 8x Made in Japan Media are made by Taiyo Yuden, also Sony Made in Japan 8x DVD+R are also Taiyo Yuden, 99% of them at least. If they scan YUDEN000 T02 they are TYs. Maxell Made in Japan DVD+R are Hitachi made.
    Very Good Quality too.

    well these are sony DVD-R. I bought maxell and they were ritekg05. also i was looking at the verbatims there but they all said they were made in taiwan so i passed on all them, but is that right the verbatims are made in taiwan or do they have others made in japan. the sonys when i scaned them came up as TYG02 when I scanned them so are the Taiyo Yuden they said they were made in japan that is why i got them. all the other brands all said taiwan.

    Verbatims are made in Taiwan and Singapore. Both versions are supposed to be excellent. I think the DL Verbatims are the ones made in Singapore, and the single layers are made in Taiwan.

    interesting how the media ID code does not show in your TYG02 scan...weird~ :) but, yea..i believe ya, it's a RARE occurance to get Taiyo Yuden media under the Sony 8x dvd-r MIJ..but, it DOES happen from time to time~ :)

    bengsxr80, the Maxells that were the RitekG05s are the MADE IN TAIWAN ones...the MIJ ones are made by Hitachi as JVC pointed out and are quite good...JVC also pointed out that Verbatims are made in taiwan and singapore...he nailed it right on the dot...the single layer Verbs are MIT (for the most part, OLD stock of Verbatim single layer is from singapore as well) but pretty much ALL the Verbatim DL discs are made in singapore~ :) the Verbatims found locally are good quality media, they are made by the same company (as of late) so you don't have to worry~ MCC= Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp. and in the DL, MKM= Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (same company, one is the parent company of the other) :)

    docTY~

    no the reason why it does not show as ty here is because it is being read by a very cheap just plain dvd player not a burner that is why it does not know what type of media it is.
