Ive had a SONY DVD RW DW-Q120A for a few months now and have never had any problems until today. I use DVD Shrink and Nero to burn with. I have only burned with DVD-R.

Now onto my problem, today I was burning a movie as usual. Everything was going normal then when the burning process started it stopped at 1% and then stopped because of an illegal disk error. I checked around and the only thing I can figure out is that my dvd burner has stopped allowing me to burn on DVD-R disks.

It now shows the Disc types:

    Hi JohnGant
It maybe your drives firmware needs a update and/or media problem.

Post the log like Noqoilpi suggested. We can find that info in the log.
    You can find them here:
If using Nero 6: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
    If using Nero 7: program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory

Just be sure to edit out the serial # - they begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
Post the last one. The logs are separated by something like this:
    ====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
Copy and paste what's after the last one.

I thought I would try it once more before coming back here to check for replies and it worked this time. I didnt try anything different than I had the previous 5 times when it didnt work. I also used the same disk that I used the last time it didnt work when i just ran a simulation.

Anyways here is the last log when it wouldnt work. I will post the one that worked if you need to look at that one as well.

    Ok here's some suggestions:
Take Nero down a notch t0 6.6.0.18. This version will still autoburn w/ Shrink. Write down your serial #, uninstall - run the clean tool then install 6.6.0.18. Here's some links:
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html

    Package 1
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2(recode & vision)
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe
512mb would be better - add more if you can. In the mean time keep as much free as possible. No multitasking and shut down any unneccesary processes. The 2nd log that was successfully show only 62% in use.
Your drives firmware is up to date but it doesn't like these Riteks cause you also get this error Illegal disc
Better to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan only Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
For these discs take it down to 4x - may help out on these.
Roxio and Nero don't always play well together. Uninsall Roxio and run the clean tool:
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
Try these and let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise.
