My DRU-810 seems to be stuck with PIO mode only. I tried to change it in Control Panel Device Manager(Windows XP) but it won't let me change it. I tried updating the F/W but I already have the latest. The driver is generic for ATAPI devices. Is there any way to get it to run in DMA? Right now it bogs the whole system down any time I'm writing a CD. My previous drive was a Hitachi that came with my HP Pavilion PC and it worked in DMA mode, but it was dying so I replaced it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello.

Have you tried uninstalling both the IDE controller the burner is located on and the burner itself with Device Manager.

    In Device Manager:
Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, right click on the IDE controller the burner is connected to and select uninstall.
Under DVD/CD-ROM Drives, right click on the name of the burner and select Uninstall.

    Restart the system.

Use Device Manager again and see if the burner's IDE channnel now lists the transfer mode as DMA.

It is possible the comm cable is faulty and is causing the drive to default to PIO transfer mode. Check the connection to see if it is secure both on the motherboard and the drive. Swap out the comm cable.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I neglected to mention that I've tried Nero, Sonic and MusicMatch and the all give the same results so it's not the application.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Laddyboy,

I tried your suggestion of uninstalling and rebooting and it worked. Thanks a million! Now I can multitask again while burning CDs. :)
