The DW-U10a is apparently an oem for the Sony DRU-500A. I currently have firmware 1.1c, and the latest DW-U10a firmware is 1.1e. But when I go to update the firmware, it shows "no updateable drive exists". Do I have to update it away from an oem version or something else, if so how do I do it? Sony dw-u10a : http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1504 sony dru500a : http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=302 All help mightily appreciated as I now cannot get this drive to work at all (worked fine for 2 years).
holy cow, it's amazing to see that other ppl are trying to do the exact same thing in another part of the world... anyway, happy mode=off. the same message ("no updateable drive exists") during the firmware flash had occured to me sa well, but since my stupid DW-U10a was taken from my PowerMac G5, i thought it had to do with apple firmware (actually it has to do with a bug at the flasher program itself)... so i found this: http://isweb44.infoseek.co.jp/computer/type-ive/files/10A_to_500A [1.0g].zip [the program will ask you to reboot first before the actual flashing. After the reboot, restart the program again and now it will take you +/- 40 seconds to flash the drive, after the flash you will be asked to reboot again. Now you will see in your 'Device Manager' that you own a DRU500A with 1.0g firmware. Halellujah!] from there, you can load the latest (2.1a) official f/w from s(t)0ny or make it an RPC1 drive with the "unofficial" 2.1a f/w [beta] by The Dangerous Brothers... [plus 4x writing with certain media...] I have just finished doing it and it works like a charm... a dwu10a from a mac g5 became dru500a in a pc.... not bad.... ...and btw...Merry Xmas!
Merry Xmas Sir, and thanks a lot it worked perfectly. Now to find if it was my firmware what was to fault, or the drive itself is shagged. Thanks again!
