    FYI,
Just recently Wallmart started carring MIJ Sony discs. The main things to look for are:

    a) Sony DVD minus R

    b) It's speed is rated 1-8X

    c) MIJ (will be printed on the yellow label)

    d) White OCTAGONAL SPACER, this is a pretty good indication you have TY. Made in Taiwan are round grey spacers

    e) if you can, look for the GG000xxx code by shifting the top disc around and holding the pack at a different angles (this is rather difficult to do and takes time but this will guarantee you that it is TY media)

    DVD Identifier shows:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
    Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    [ DVD Identifier V4.3.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I paid $24.97 CND for a 50 spindle.

That's good. I recently just bought some Sony MIJ at Walmart but they code out as SONY08D1, and that works for me. Thanks for the info about the TY's.

Fact: only genuine Taiyo Yuden media are "made in japan".

So if any of you want to get them locally, then I suggest you look hard and get the 8X DVD+R from FUJI or SONY that says; "Made In Japan" and 99.99% it's will code out as YUDEN000T02, meaning it's authentic Taiyo Yuden media.

    Yep, Tai-yo Yu-den ROCK!!

    Hey gang !

Checked my local wallyworld & they do finally have Sony Dvd media - But they were down to just the 8X dvd-r & deffinitely Taiwan made ! but at 24.99 for a 50ct. spinle it can stay at wallyworld ! I can get Taiyo Yudens online for less and verbatims @ SAMSCLUB cheaper too ! but hey if someone else puts the sony's on sale & I find some Mij's at a wallyworld it's BANZAI time by the way the spacer on the sony spindle was round & grey just thought you'd wanna know ! peace & happy burning!

    Hello Deline:

That's not fair. Down here is the US, that's the same price for our sony. LOL. Only $15 when on sale at staples/office max/and best buy.

I only live about 400 yards away from my neighbor,Super Walmart, and all of their +8x media is made in japan. They had the white hexagon spacers. All their dash were made in taiwan, and had the round/gray spacers. That spacer may work for the dash format, but from what I have read here, doesn't work for the plus format. You'll still have to look carefully for th sony +1x-8x spindles for the japanese yudens.

Thanks for the tip. I went to Wal Mart to check it out and found the DVD-R's were made in Taiwan, the DVD+R's were made in Japan and coded-
    Sony DVD+R
    8x
    ID:YUDEN000-T02-00

    Sweet deal.

Usually walmart with have both spindles of taiwan and japan all mixed together. Same with other stores like staples/besbuy/office max/and office depot. Just have to search those labels over carefully.

Wait till you accidentally buy the sony +16x japanese media. These are coded SonyD21 and scan poorly. Those spindles look identical to the sony +1x-8x spindles. OK playback, but I just don't like all those little errors in them.

Do they really?!? I never knew that! No wonder that out of 30 discs, I got 30 discs that burned well. That is good news. And just to think I was going to buy Taiyo Yuden discs and I've been using them the whole time. That's great!

You know I went into my Best Buy a few weeks ago when the Sony DVD+R's were on sale for $14.99 a 50 pack. They had about 20 spindles around the store and everyone was made in Japan. Go figure? My son had a $15 gift card but couldn't find anything to spend it on. I gave him $15 cash and told him to give me the card. I bought 1 pack just for kicks and they coded out as YUDEN000T02. Burnt several and got a 99% Nero CD/DVD tests on all three. Unfortunately I primarily only use Printables. These were the first non-printables I've bought in over a year. It did convert me to TY's for good though, but these will probably sit here and collect dust with my other non-printables.

The same here +R 1-8X Sony with the white MIJ spacer = TYs. Local WM had about 20 cakes $23.97, the -R were not MIJ with the gray spacer.

@ BIGTOXY69 - Actually I decided to go through and back up some of my sons PS2 backups. I had done some of his backups on some crappy G05's and figured I better back up the originals again. So I was going to use these TY's for that. Unfortunatley I got the idea because he said one of his backups wasn't working anymore. It was on a G05. So I went to back it up off the original again and the original has a scratch 3/4's of the way in and fails out. So now both the back up and original are bad :(. I told him that when the backup went bad, he needed to let me know so I could've made another backup of the original before he messed that one up.

beltline- sorry the Game got scratched ! Don't know if anybody in your area does it ? but some game- shops & or DVd rental places do Resurfacing for scratched Games& Movie dvd's This is done on proffesional quality machines that cost $2000.00 or more ! Got my Grandsons Original Copy of GTA San Andreas - done he had scratched it beyond playability ! Cost me $3.00 & works like a charm now! Might be the way to go ? Then back it up & hide the original somewhere safe ! when the backup gets Banged up you still have the original to fall back to to re copy ! Good Luck beltline & Hope you can find a Place That resurfaces disc where you live !Nanoo Nanoo ! LOL! Happy Burning !

The spacer theory seems to work on the sony dash 1x-8x. The plus 1x-8x doesn't seem that way. I saw both taiwanese and japanese sony +1x-8x with the white spacer at my nearby walmart. The sony sale at bestbuy this week is for the 16x speed. I picked up a spindle of +1x-16x,made in japan, that coded as SonyD21.This had the gray spacer, and so did the rest of the 100+ spindles they had.

If the sony Yuden000-T02 disappears, looks like strictly Verbatim + 16x Mcc-004 from now on for me.
