go with the sony mate for the extra £50 for the simple fact is mate there is no clear cut winner yet in the DVD-r DVR+r stakes
DVD+r is more versartile than the other so lets just say in 12 months if you get to DVD+r being the standard then u are going to pay out again and be unable to sell the pioneer
on another note mate i too didnt know which one too buy so I too posted a thread like this and got 25 replys 20 for the sony and 3 for the AO5 2 for teac soif i was you id go 4 the sony
but where you are going to get one from is anyones guess
i buy computer stuff each week cus i build em for mates and alike and icve watched the price of hds and cpus memory fall in price
but alas the sony has gone up
UP UP UP on saturday at bowlers there were 2 stalls selling sonys for £299 they had 10 between em @ 10 they had 10 @ 10-15 they were all gone mate
there were stalls selling the AO5 for 235quid and coulnt sell em there was one stall with OEM black"mesh" style AO4s FOR £150 and couldnt sell em
so if you go with the majority go withthe sony mate
    HOPE this helps

I was having the same decision problem you had my friend. I decided that the risk of chosing the wrong standard was too great a risk. We don't know who will win, or with any certainty, what time frame it will even happen. Get the sony, you'll be safer in the long run. I also noticed that people were saying that stuff burned a lot easier (media wise) with the Sony. I have no firsthand experience with it yet though. It just looks pretty on my table till I get the rest of my new PC :)

I've got an A05 myself and although it's a cracking piece of kit that's well built and has hasn't let me down I would have to go with the majority and get the sony. Sadly all this indecision is going to get worse with the release of the new blue ray format (also in two different guises) which will make Dvd yesterday's news.

I've got the sony and I'm very happy with it. I usually buy quality media for it but with both formats there is always something on sale at local computer stores. I've done backups of dvd's and burned home movies with about 4 different apps and have yet to burn a coaster.

Go with Sony! It is rated the best on the market!! Check out the reviews on Circuit City's site. http://www.circuitcity.com
Look under Computers Peripherals & Accessories
Make sure you get the Sony DRU-500AX!!!!!

I have the Sony DRU 500A and am wondering what the differance is between it and the AX. I hope I didn't grab this to quickly. From all the reading and all the formats I thought I had done the right thing, hummm?

    Thanks in advance, Dana
