I have backed up 2 dvd using Verbatum dataplus and Verbatum lightscribe media. My Sony dvd player will not play them,I get the error message (The disc is dirty). This is the first issues that I have had with a player not playing backups.I used Shrink and imgburn to backup these dvds. The dvd payer is the Sony Dvp-ns700h.Both discs are dvd+ .
Can you explain? I have never done this and have backed up 200 dvds with no issues. This sony dvd player is new,so I guess this is the problem.
In a nutshell, booktyping is basically an attempt to fool the standalone into thinking that what you are feeding it is a pressed, commercial dvd. More info here: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_set_booktype_for_blank_dvd_r_w__media_page_2.cfm Some standalone players can be picky about what you feed them. The -R format is typically widely acceptable. If using the +R format, booktyping to DVD-ROM increases compatiblity. This is all assuming your drive supports the booktype/bitsetting function.
@ kmad61 I get the error message (The disc is dirty). Not saying this is fact, but you must be careful not to touch the disc in any of the recording area.
Dirty Disc is the most common error display message with sony stand alone players. It doesn't necessarily mean the disc is dirty, just something wrong and that player doesn't like it. Booktyping usually fixes it,unless you have a non booktyping drive. Switching to dash format would be the option for non booktype capable dvd-rw drives. Keep an eye on that player, especially if switching to different brand of blank media, trying different burn engines. Sometimes the picky players can see a difference and yield more Dirty Disc messages. Booktype those bad boys!
Amen to my little green friend's advice there! I almost strictly use the +R format, and i booktype everyone of them. Have yet to have an issue.
