Would anyone be willing to buy systems like this? I have a few hard drives lying around and would be willing to get some PS2s and sell them with a memory card included with Free MC Boot (to bypass the BIOS of the PS2 and load homebrew), HDLoader 0.8c (to play games on the hard drive), HDLDump Server (to send games from the computer to the hard drive in case your CD/DVD drive doesn't work), and possibly the cables and controller (depend on how much you would like to spend). Or I could look into the possibility of people mailing me their system and their memory card (you pay shipping there and back) and I just charge for the HD and putting it together. Just some thoughts I've been having... thanks.
Don't forget to add a network adapter to what else you'd have to ship me... otherwise the hard drive wouldn't fit in it.
Be carefull...it is illigal to sell programs that allow you to play pirated games. It is also illigal to sell freeware without permission from the author. "HDLoader 0.8c (to play games on the hard drive)" - if you sold anything that so openly welcomed piracy, you could be arrested for it. And yes, it is still considered piracy if you bought the game that you copied to the drive (at least in the USA). Also, you forgot the PS1 game that is required to make the memory card trick work.
The PS1 game is no longer required. That method is outdated. I didn't know a service like that is so illegal. Why do people do it so much on websites then? (Not being condescending... just wondering...)
If it were not against forum rules, I could give you a list of a hundred websites that blatenly distribute pirated software. It is hard for the government to prosecute all of these websites, so they usualy go after anyone who is making a business of it. (free warez sites usualy get a warning to shut down/remove illigal content before the government bothers to pay agents to make an arrest) Put plainly, it is safer to pirate a hundred programs for free than it is to sell one pirated program. I'm not sure sony still cares about the PS2, but I would not risk it. As for freeware, there is usualy a TXT or NFO file. A typical one will state something like, "You are free to use or distribute this software so long as this TXT file stays with it" or "You may use or distribute this software freely, but if you intend to include it with anything you are charging for, you need permision from the author" -I am not a lawyer, but I have read the disclaimers on lots of warez sites.
I don't think it's illegal to charge for the installation of the parts and software, because all you are doing is selling a service - as long as you aren't "selling" the freeware, I'm sure you'll be aiight. as far as posting about it here... well, I have no idea, but until a mod says otherwise or a more active member (no offense killerbug), I wouldn't worry about it.
Read things before you post them killerbug Free ware isent a pirated software hince the name "free" the programs that are listed aren't made by a corparation that slls them they are all free to download altho some download sites may charge for a membership they are not charging for the program so what he is doing is not illeagle its 100% leagle he isent charging for the program(s) he is charging for the harddrive, nessasary equiptmen and the service of installing the program(s) so you dont have to track down and install so i guess to wrap this dont be a dumbass READ!!!!
