WE RECENTLY HAD A MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AT THE HOUSE, THE CONSUMER UNIT BLEW AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS AFFECTED OUR STEREO SYSTEMS AMP SONY STR D511, WHILE POWER SUPPLY WORKS AND IT WILL GO INTO STANDBY MODE IT WILL NOT CHANGE THE VARIOUS FUNCTIONS IE TAPE,CD, PHONO, TUNER AND VIDEO. THE CD PLAYER AND TAPE DECKS WORK BUT NO SOUND FROM SPEAKERS, HAS SOMETHING BLOWN IN THE AMP OR IS IT IN PROTECT MODE, IF THE LATTER HOW DO i GET OUT OF IT? THANKS Ronalu
from my old experience with sony, try this, but it may now work, due to that power spike... power down the unit, let it sit over night unplugged and try again. if it does the same, its fried. now is the time to think about surge protection since you have experienced it first hand. dont skimp on the surge protection, for less then a 100 bucks, it will save you thousands...(providing you have lots of a/v equipment). dont buy one of those cheapy 10 dollar jobbers from wal mart, spend over 50 + to get some good protection, then register the unit with the manufacturer and list all your components connected to it. they offer, depending on how much you bought the surge protector for, anywhere from $1k up to $50k worth of replacement items.
