    taken from pspcrazy.com
According to an invention-spotting column at NewScientisttech (by way of Eurogamer) Sony has applied for a patent that will make portable tech a bit more portable -- and squishy. According to the patent the plan is to create handheld computers, phones, and games that can fold up for carrying, but become rigid for use. Say wha? The body and screen of these do-dads would be made from a springy polymer material that has conductive rubber bracing struts filled with a gel of aluminosilicate particles suspended in silicone oil. Passing an electrical current through the struts would cause those particles to clump together, harden the gel, and stiffen up the toy. According to the patent the transition from soft to hard takes just milliseconds (heh-heh… oh… grow up!). Of interesting note to gamers, the patent specifically indicates that this same technology could be used in a game controller to make it jolt -- or change shape -- in response to on-screen action. An example offered that during a fighting game if a player is defeated, the electroheological fluid device would become soft in order to "improve the realistic sensations in the game." holy crap this sounds good all i gotta say is is stick this on the ps3 controller and make it vibrate and we are all happy again any this Dappa reporting out.

this sounds mad cool i hope they fix some things up for the ps3
and sorry if i posted this thread in the wrong place

Yeah i heard of it a few years back. Some guys were using it to make thin devices cause it was really flexible and had and better veiwing angle. O-LED what ever happened to it i've been wondering

i think its there lifetime. they only last 10,000 hours, and any use it would have would have to be replaced every year or 2.

Hey anubis and xyqo.So how much is this thing anyways?.I mean if it has only a short life and cost's alot there is your reason.

when reading pinoy0009's first post I can't help but think about how much that would cost per controller.

costs are accually alot cheaper, but its 1/3 the life of plasma, and 1/6 the life of lcd.

O LED should be available within the next year or two. They already have a keyboard with OLED screens on the keys. Its gonna be awesome. Fully flexible, paper thin, and cheap enough to make posters out of. Theyre even planning am O-LED shirt that you can download paterns into. Alot more exciting than this "shapeshifting plastic"
