Hey guys. This is my first post as i am a new user (read newbie). So far i am quite impressed with all your comments and opinions, so hopefully you can help me out with my problem.

I have all the necessary hardware to back up my games (yes, the ones i legally own) I have slayers evo x Flask fxp ect.

I can extract the files to my PC easily enough (thats not the problem) when i copy the files i see a "defalt.xbe" and one folder. i bring them both across perfectly along with (dsst.dsf, intro.xme etc etc)

Ok FINALLY MY PROBLEM i have record now and have changed the settings as one of the other members suggested (track at once closed, and udf 128...) then i put all the files in individually WITHOUT MAKING AN ISO and burn it to my dvd-r disk.

The game is read by the xbox (ie it doesn't say it cannot recognise the disk) but freezes at the 'X' screen (x box logo screen) is there a special order the folders must be in in order to work?

I have tried to make an iso with a few programs and it creates it fine but it wont read in xbox (cannot recognise disk) am i supposed to put those defalt.xbe programs etc in one of the folders that i ftp'd from the xbox?

PLEASE HELP I AM SOO CLOSE.

    THANKS GUYS

I'm not sure but i think you have patch default.xbe -file before you burn it.

can't really understand your problem, but here goes:

    - assuming you have an e: drive, did you try to create e:/games/nameofgame folder? that's where you're supposed to transfer the files. same goes for apps where you're supposed to create e:/apps/nameofapps. edit your evox.ini to point to these folders when looking for the games or apps
    - have you tried using dvd2xbox or px hddloader? these can automatically patch and save the games to your hard drive. no need to do the ftp transfer

Clarky ... yes all the files you send over from your xbox game MUST be sent over
especially the XBE files these are like exe for a pc game
you don't put them in folders you just leave them as they are they know what they are in
did u use craxtion to make your xiso though
and when you don't use iso are you choosing DATA DISK for the option?

You should FTP everything off the disk to your PC into one subdirectory, you will then need to make that directory into an ISO and then burn that to a DVD that is compatible with you xbox (I use bulkpaq -r's and they are great)

I use xISO and that works ok for me.

i will try to be more clear this time. I extract the file from my xbox onto my pc (either from the d: or f: where i have an 80 gig HDD) I choose a folder to extract it to. And extract the files into that file.

I then have a file named DATA that has folders in it plus the other files such as .xbe etc that are in the data file but not within another folder.

I have craxtion but found it a bit confusing. I ask it to make a .iso but it cannot locate the defalt.xbe file UNLESS I PUT IT INTO ANOTHER FOLDER such as vehicles ect. What am i doing wrong with craxtion? i have the guide but it is a little confusing. A lamens guide would be helpful.

And yeah buddy, i am using data mode when i choose to burn it with record now. Does it have to be an iso to run or can it be put in its raw form?

thanks for the help so far but still a little lost.

Right, you hould never move where your files live in relation to subdirectories, the default.xbe should always be in the root folder for where you have that game....

example, if the game is halo, then when you extrace everything to your pc, put it in the folder c:\games\halo (for example) this folder should have no other games in it, only what comes of the halo disk. That way you should have the default in the root of that game i.e. c:\games\halo\default.xbe.

if you have the files handy it might be an idea to start again and do like above.

once you have done that, i would use xISO to make that entire halo folder into an xbox .iso and then burn it with nero.

for a guide go here on xISO

    http://www.geocities.com/seamonkeyguides/xISO.html

    Hope this helps

s8nsch1ld i have just finished using xiso and am now ready to burn with nero as you suggested. Are there any special settings that i need to have nero on in order to make a working copy?

yep, you have to burn the .iso in dvd format and finalise the disk.
check seamonkeys guides for exact how to.

STILL NOTHING!!! this is exactly what i did.

Created a new folder to extract the game to via flashfxp named maxpayne2

extracted all the files to this folder - completed successfully

opened XISO by yursoft - clicked tools - make an xiso
    chose maxpayne2 folder

created a new folder names maxpayne2 extract and saved the xiso there.

yursoft xiso generates tree files etc... Completed successfully

opened record now - chose data - track at once closed - udf blah blah 128..

    burnt it

    put in xbox

CANNOT RECOGNISE DISK!!! WTF am i doing wrong?

(and yess it is chipped ;) with aladin a chip that lets you use xbox live still)

Everything sounds good. I'm not sure, but if you can ftp the maxpayne2 dir onto the xbox into your games folder and run it from there ok then it must be something that is going wrong on burning the .iso to disk, that or bad media?!?

My other thought is are you extracting the disk from your xbox dvd rom drive or is it something you have downloaded?

you are converting to xiso? yeah and choosin data on record now? you don't choose data for an iso you choose image find your iso and then make sure your recording options are
    disc at once (DAO) closed
    cd mode 1 (blocking 2048) - dvd
make sure when you try and find your xiso that you have selected to open image and not global image or it wont find it
otherwise you really could give craxtion a go though if you are converting to iso like you say data burnin won't work

PEACHYMO YOU ARE A CHAMP!!!! the game works FINE. only thing is it will only run under slayers evo x and not under the normal dashboard. When it runs under the normal dash it reads the game and keeps going back to the dashboard. Not to worrk i can live with holding in the power button for an extra two seconds.

THANKS AGAIN BUDDY YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY.

    no problem
yeah it will only run under the evox because your chip is activated
i do that with my chip alladin advance (hold button for around a second
if you boot up under normal dash it will only read your originals not your backed up
this means you can use xbox live
what chip do you have anyway

yeah pretty sure its an alladin advance (its an alladin something). got it about a week ago because a certain store (which will remain nameless) told me i was getting a chip installed, when infact they only flashed the bios. The then told me that because i got the xbox opened to install the new HDD and slayers evo x (when i discovered i didnt even have an origional xbox chip in it!) the so called warranty was void. BASTARDS,.

    Thanks again peachymo.
