    Hey

My AVG antispyware keeps showing these same 21 infections over and over again, even though it says that it deleted them. I'm also running Ad Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware blaster but the former two dont show any infections at all. Someone help please! Thanks

yeah well Ad Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware blaster are all spyware scanners and will not pick up trojans, viruses, worms, etc etc. anywho, scan ur computer with avast, i can see u have it on your computer. it should clear up this mess. i can also say that you log is clean because hijackthis realy only scans for spyware and some trojans, the following is no longer needed on your computer and can be deleted safely. do you have any idea what these infections are called or are classified as?

Spybot picked up one called casalmedia or something and avg picked up that up plus 20 others, i think most of them were medium threat cookies. I ran avg spyware twice the first time it said it deleted them but when i scanned again they still showed up. Then i rebooted in safe mode, ran spybot, avg, and ad ware plus a full avast scan and trend micro's housecall and they came up clean. I was reading some reviews on avg antispyware and it said that avg's notorious for detecting false positives, i guess that could have been it.

yeah, i wouldn't worry about it too much if the other stuff isnt picking it up (that is if what we are talking about is spyware), but since its talking about cookies it sounds like it is going to be spyware.

    Hey kateman

i have a few more questions, i just took on the task of fixing my 2 desktop computers, lets call the desktop and office. They both are slow and seem to be riddled with malware. On the desktop i installed a whole whack of security software, similar to that of the laptop avast, zonealarm, spyware apps etc... but it wont let me update them, its says there was a retrieving error. The office comp is really screwed the cpu recognizes that the internet is connected but when i open any app that uses the net it its says theres no connection. I ran an avg AV scan of the system and it detected 37 viruses, with the office cpu im just going to straight up reformat the hd, but i think there is still hope for the desktop. Any advice? This log is after i removed over 2000 infections according to AVG antispyware, spycatcher is running right now and says i have about 300 more as of now, spybot said it removed 100 and adware removed 1.

Hijack this log for the Desktop

your log is clean. well are you able to connect to the internet with other programs like internet explorer or your web browser? Have you scanned with avast?

delete the following (its no longer needed)

remember that hijackthis is mainly just a spyware scanner and it can find some trojans. all of which would have been removed by the scannerss that you have already used. :]

    Hey kateman,

I figured out the internet issue, apparently avast doesnt let you connect to the internet unless you have a home registration, the demo version is really weird like that. I ran spycatcher, ad aware, avg as, spybot, plus i have spywareblaster and spywareguard and just for performance sake i ran ccleaner and auslogics disk defrag. It was running MUCH better but i wanted to run Housecall plus a full thorough avast scan before i made my final verdict. I needed to reboot though cause i had updated zone alarm so i rebooted and for some odd reason most of my apps at startup wouldnt run. It loaded avast, spycatcher and spyguard but thats it and then when i went to run avast and spycatcher they didnt respond. I tried to restart....nothing, ctrl + alt + del.......nothing. It completely stopped responding so i shut it down manually and ya..... Its late now so i'll try to run avast and housecall in the morning in safe mode, but if that doesnt work, then im not sure what to do.....any ideas?

well that is interesting. Sounds like your computer froze, but if you just try it tommorow and see what happens it might work out :]

restarted in safe mode ran full avast scan took like 8 hours....found a bunch of viruses but their were like 150 files that "could not be scanned", i think they were password protected archives. I ran system restore to the date when i bought the computer or around there and it said "no changes made" when i booted, then i ran an avast boot scan, nothing came up. I was looking into some of the proccess running on my comp though and it showed spycatcher running like 4 times and everytime i ended it, it would start again. There were a also a few other apps that were doing that? Also, on my laptop i i found a worm on my comp, worms can travel across wireless networks right?
