Hey guys, When one takes a look at all the threads at any forum on aD, they are shown in what seems to be a random order or according to latest posts. But what I would like to recommend is that u allow viewers to sort threads accordin to no. of post Alphabetical order (name of thread initiator) or the latest date 'funda '. I think this would be really useful for neone lurking or otherwise. Cos whos got time to look at all 7 or more pgs and admit it u r search isn't exactly GOOGLE!(no offence intended) __________________ (pls. dont ban me cos of this )
The threads are sorted by last post - the more recently update post occurs at the top. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7N8X-X, XP2500+ OC'd to XP3200+ Samsung 1024MB, PC2700 OC'd to PC3200 480GB [3x160GB, 7200, 8MB] EVGA, GeForce4 Ti4600 128MB Rules and Policies: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487[/small]
LOL sorry i didnt quite get what you ment the first time hehe... dunno if thats doable since it would require, upon loading the forum, to download every single header and link and then sorting it on clientside which would slow down the whole place ... now if we did it all serverside then i wouldnt imagine it would take too long to overwhelm the servers and that would be bad too ... whaddya think boss? _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7N8X-X, XP2500+ OC'd to XP3200+ Samsung 1024MB, PC2700 OC'd to PC3200 480GB [3x160GB, 7200, 8MB] EVGA, GeForce4 Ti4600 128MB Rules and Policies: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487[/small]
Sorting alphabetically is doable and not very big task to do, but I can't see the need for it quite clearly, as the topics vary from !!!!HELP!!!! I need assistance! DVD can't be played, WHY=!!!?? to more meaningful ones. But I'll add it to my too long to-do list (ETA 2005, can't promise anything faster..).
I agree alphabetical sort is not very usefull but stilll... I basically asked this cos many a times I got stuck at the search bar and had to press f5 5 or 6 times to get results And sortin by no. of posts is still a good idea according to me
The search may not be the best, but it works for me. However, as you say it isn't exactly google, why not use google? Just use site:afterdawn.com your search terms and google will give you heaps of results. It may not quite go all the way back to the beginning of aD time but it works pretty well.
I've been drooling over these to add to our site. Too bad no one is willing to donate us $32,000 to get one.. http://www.google.com/appliance/products.html

Hehehe, thanks for the confidence in me pete... Regards CoZZa Ill just sell my parents House... Mwahahaha, i mean..
The topic is a better way to search threads, I'm just getting used to this way and resign myself to the fact I'll be reading a while - But if you're thinking about changing it - I would suggest a professional be consulted - I’m thinking a cute Librarian - Seriously !!! "P"
To be honest I like the current listing of most recently added to thread. Although now I find my self respond to threads that have less than 3 or 2 posts, of course unless they turn into a chit chat thread. This might be a nightmare, but could it be possible for individual users to select what display method they would like. Have it as a preference, list thread in alphabetical order, order of coments, last visted or what ever. AS I said for the multi thousands of AD users this could be a nightmare, but I think it might be possible. WHat do others think.
