I just bought a second hand computer & have noticed the sound is crap.

When playing songs or films, the sound echoes & i sounds terrible.

I checked & i have the latest drivers for the sound card.
I think the sound card is onboard Realtek AC '97.

In control panel there is Sound Effect Manager.

I think this could be the problem & dont know if it was installed with the sound driver or seperately.

Apparently theres no way of uninstalling it.

    Anyone any ideas ?

    Cheers

Open Sound Effect Manager and see if there's anything set in that. My AC97 sound is pretty good.

There doesnt seem to be anything set in Sound Effect Manager.

Ive tried disabling everything & messing around with the volume properties etc but no luck.

Ive tried listening to music on media player, media monkey, nero etc but they all sound the same.

I tried the speakers in a different computer & they sound fine,
so it must be whatevers installed on this pc. :(

go to start run then control panel, then sound effect manager.click sound effect and look at environment.select none.here you can also play with your equalizer settings and check speaker config.etc.
