Yesterday i woke up only to find out my sound device on my computer doesn't work. Now my Windows has been acting weird lately (XP) so i tried to reinstall my driver, and it seemed fine. It told me to restart and I did... still didnt work, it now tells me there is "no active mixer devices available". So I try again, this time i dont restart and it works! but most of my video files (MKV, OGG, etc.) work like crap, and even when i install my codecs they are very screwy.

I'm starting to think its my Windows considering less than a week ago it said I could be a victim of counterfeit or whatever (when i bought my copy over ebay so im kinda not surprised). I tried a system restore but still nothing. I only got the Windows sounds effects and nothing else works.

Can anyone help me? Thank you.

did you check the volume in the control panel?

check if you have any kind of conflit on your device manager
right click on "My Computer" -> properties -> Hardware -> device manager

also, there is a new and annoying update from ms that tells if your copy of xp is genuine or not. Uninstall the last update, I'd suggest you get an official copy

to force you to get a genuine copy somethings will not work or you can't get certain updates.
