Ok, when I encode a Divx or even a DVD with tmpengc for SVCD, when playing back in a dvd player the sound after a short while starts to skip or hickup and then does it more and more as the movie progresses. THe picture tends to skip a bit too. Any ideas. I'm pulling out whatever hair I got left!

This sounds Like your DVD Player can not Handle the Bitrate of your SVCD"s..Tmpgenc has a Really bad Habbit of Ignoreing the Bitrate you set and the Bitrate will quite often Spike Quite High and when this Happens your DVD Player has to suddenly spin the Disk extra Fast so it can read the Data in Real Time and if the Bitrate is too high or Spikes too Fast your DVD Player will not be able to read the data fast enough and that is why you get a Stuttering effect in the audio and Video..This is the Main Reason why I do not use Tmpgenc for VCD"s and SVCD"s anymore...What Might help is if you used a CBR encodeing method as opposed to a VBR or CQ Mode that is if you are useing one of those encodeing modes...Or you can try useing a Lower Bitrate or even a Different encoder, One that Obeys the Bitrate you set Like MainConcept Encoder or CCE..When I first started Makeing SVCD"s I had this Problem all the Time and I must have ruined 200 CD-R"s, I then Learned how to Use AVISynth to Frameserve and use CCE to encode and My problems were gone and the SVCD quality was better with CCE and it was 5-10 times Faster...well good Luck

Well There is a Program called "DVD2SVCD" that uses CCE as it"s encoder and it produces Good Quality SVCD files and it is Mostly automated..
You can try useing that as it would do what you want, Or you could try the Mainconcept encoder which is pretty easy to use and very fast..There Are also guides on this Forum and on www.DVDrhelp.com that Might help...good luck

Yeah, but CCE is very expensive and the free version puts some lameass logo on my screen AND every time I've used it, I get no video at all. Just sound and that's it.Gonna try MainConcept next.
